Should I buy the JD X729 ? help..

Gittyup,
The 2305 and 1026R models are not four wheel steer which can make a huge difference in a lawn mower. I for one much prefer the X749 over the 2305.

I know and I agree. But, he said he was going to look at BXs. So, just trying to point out that he compare like machines.

I have a 425AWS and love it. But, it's getting some age on it and I've been contemplating a replacement. I've been thinking about getting rid of my bigger tractor (Kioti CK25) and the 425 and going with one tractor in between in size (like a 2320 or 2520). But, I keep coming back to that AWS thing that I love so much and that works so well for my needs. And I'd also be giving up the extra capabilities of the Kioti. Maybe I'll just keep what I've got. I can't afford to just upgrade the 425 to say a X749 and keep the Kioti too. But I keep waffling.

i much prefer the 2305 over the x749. it works out better around the barn. more universal.

Yep. Depends on your uses. I prefer the smaller nimbler X700 size with AWS for mowing and snow removal. All other things, I'd want a bigger tractor.

Really depends on how you're going to use it - you might consider the 2305 - which is changing in a few months. JD is coming out with a new version of the 2305 that has the drive-over deck like the larger 2000 models.

The attachments are easier to use on the 2000 series tractors, and the 4WS is not all that big of a deal. I just bought the 2320, all for these reasons.

As I see it, not many people are sad for buying a little more tractor than they need - better than not buying enough...

Just my 2 cents...

Completely disagree. I can mow circles around a 2000 series in my yard with an AWS. I'd be done and on my second beer before you finished with a 2000. AWS is amazingly fast when you are cutting anything with a lot of trees, shrubs, flower beds and other obstacles where tight turns are a necessity. And the smaller tractor will fit where the 2000's can't, leaving way more trimming to do too. My weedeater and push mower hangout with the Maytag repair man, they get used so seldom.

And plowing snow: AWS lets you steer when the front end gets light, as it's sure to do with a front mount blade. I plow sideways sometimes on a 11' wide drive without ever leaving the pavement. Try that without AWS and see how it just isn't efficient, if you can do it all. Doubt you could even get a 2000 series sideways with a front mount blade and remain on pavement.

I have both a bigger and smaller tractor, and bigger is not always better. I wouldn't even think about using my CK25 (about the size of a 2720) to mow or plow snow. That's why I'm keeping my 425. It would just be more work for me with a bigger machine. And if I ever replace the 425, you can bet it'll be with another AWS, as long as I'm living on this property or one similar.

Now if you have mostly wide open spaces to mow or really long open snowplowing, of course a bigger machine would be advantageous and AWS wouldn't do a thing for you. But, trust me, AWS is a big deal on certain property types.

I like the AWS and 4x4, but strange as it may sound like the simgle range gearing better on the X749. It is just about perfect for most everything I do with this mower.

Here are a couple of pics of a customers yard I am building this week, last week you couldn't get through it unless on foot. This week we cleared out some crappy trees, saved out the firewood, chipped up the branches and moved 108 yards of topsoil. Rocks and more rocks this is close to the top of a mountain so not much soil to cover the rocks everywhere.

Used the 749 to rake up the pine needles, rake and smooth around the trees. Used the 110tlb to dig up the stumps and haul the topsoil around the back of the house. Used the 4520 with the boxblade to grade. Should be finished in a couple of days.

Well you can't put a fel on a 749 but it seems to do just about everything else. I don't want a fel on my small tractor/mower it would be in the way. The 110tlb handles my loader work, this means the short and stubby 4520 and 749 can get in the tight spots.

Completely agree with your disagreement. The X748 is my small tractor that can mow and blow circles like crazy fast (even without AWS). You should see all the slopes and number of trees, bushes, flower beds I mow up/down and around encompassing about 5 acres.

The 2000 series would not work as well or any were near as fast in my conditions and I too would be left with lots to trim. My push mower never gets used. My NH Boomer 3040 is for the big stuff like loader, open field and pasture work and occasional winter storm with monster drifts. Trust me too the 700 series overall is a big deal and the best machine on certain properties. It truly deserves the name ultimate tractor. :)

2*But just like the 2000s the smaller tractor will not mow out over ditches and road banks
3*which still leaves a lot of hand trimming with with a weed eater and or a push mower .
4*I have a lot of large wide open spaces to mow
5*so AWS wouldn't do anything for me.
I gota agree with Jimmy here, it'll need more than 15 minutes.
A lot more minutes.
