Eh? Examples? TNT?

My impression is more like some people there seem to post while their minds are completely blank. :p

Very emphatic, no content.
And when they violate the rules they get banned. And within an hour they can be back under a new alias. TBN members have done it repeatedly. Laughing at authority. And allowed because they advanced the cause of the class in power. So, no, you cannot freely voice your opinion. TNT is a perfect example of what you get with a dictatorship.

sadly there are folks who seem to make a living about taking offense.
They may have anger management problems, they may
just be really unhappy about life.
They can't control their own situation, but here on line, they are the king of words.
Problem is words can hurt and unless you are an insensitive moron we all have to think about what we say.

and remember, what you say here lasts forever. Or it gets pruned.
But even then, I think the big search engines save all the old pages

87/13
take a bell curve and the 13 are the outliers.
Outliers have often had merit...
And they got listened to here.

don't think that choice split is going to change much with bigger numbers.
I believe the appreciation level of the many overrides the mild discomfort of the few.
I never thought being in a civilized society was free, not by a long shot.
So I'm ok with boundaries as long as they make sense to me. Or are the law.

You are quite correct... no one was allowed to use a common nickname of one's formal, given name.
And right here is one of the guilty parties. Who chose to call me a dick repeatedly to the point of getting banned. Then coming back as an alias and calling me a dick again in every post. I asked if this is acceptable and was told by MC, that's the way it is. I left. So now this member does it here under disguise. MC sees it and does nothing. Again, because this member furthers the cause. Neat package.

Is entirely fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and their sense of "on the centerline" or not...

If these two posters feel that the theme of the forum has drifted away from their ideal centerline, that's fair. But maybe that drift is toward a greater number of member's preferred centerline, who's to say? Those who voted? Maybe it is more "right" for others.....

There is no way to find a centerpoint for this, not possible. Everything is a compromise. I look for what I like here, and pass by the topics where I'm certain to hold a minority opinion. Why look for what's not right, when there's enough right?
Yet both of those members contributed a lot to the forums. Especially "K0UA", who just left. While OP was great at showing what he was doing and stimulating discussion, "James" had a lot of knowledge and was very adept at sharing it in a way that we could understand... even when talking about tractoring.
Members come and go for various reasons yet sometimes it's because of real or perceived changes in the format. It appears that the founder (AKA "Muhammed") is interesting in finding out why, and perhaps will implement changes to keep longterm members, while still not compromising his goals. He's put a lot of effort into making the site worth visiting, hopefully he can curb the exodus of some valuable members who I've seen disappear in the last year or so.

I mostly love this forum and have learned a lot here !

Yes a few very popular threads were completely deleted but they were of absolutely no value to me and about the only thing I learned from them is many of the participants ain’t got much interest in tractor stuff.

As far as that James’s guy that started the thread about his last post on this forum i really have nothing against him but I sure won’t miss him much, hopefully he will find a different forum that fits his needs better.

I am a member of about 7 other Internet forums and never had any problems there but another tractor forum I joined a couple months ago banned me after my very first post and I have no idea why.

Incase anyone is wondering I only read the first 8 pages of this thread and voted no, management seems to be doing a pretty good job running this forum but it seems like there are a few other threads that should also probably be removed .

I vote with my feet.

I NEVER click to open a thread entitled "Investing for Beginners" on a tractor forum.
Why is it here? Why should I care? I don't! One man's gain is another man's loss. What's with that?
Same as healthcare, same as politics.

Just keep it civil. It is evident that when we spiral down the waste tube of ad hominem, the spillage rots everything it comes in contact with .

Censorship is for those who lack self discipline. (Yes, I know what I just typed! ;-)

Want to start???? Send Old Path a request to come back and let him know a line of scripture in his profile is not offensive. If that is too much of a compromise, God bless you!

"One nation under God"...we shouldn't need a 2x4 across the head to figure it out.
Agree!

He could be a little frustrating sometimes but knew his stuff, contributed a lot, and seemed to stimulate conversations. In the past few weeks especially, I've noticed that many members who mainly posted about tractors, wood, and sawmilling don't seem to be around as much. Heck, I don't even see Sawyer Rob around as much as I used to.

The irony about OP's signature is that just one member seemed to take offense... and he takes offense at a lot of mundane things. Meanwhile there are other signatures which-to me, at least- seem to be there to generate controversy, yet they're allowed to remain.
Inconsistent application of "The Rule".
