Ditto. That and the fact that the go pedal is connected to a 425 hp Hemi. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif The only problem is that the estimated debut date is 2010. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I can't believe this is even a topic of discussion. This is the land of the free, not a Communist Regime.
If these people want to build a Chevy and buy a Toyota then they should have that choice. It is called Freedon of Choice and it is just on of the many values that this great country was based on.
I am all for America, I am a Desert Storm Vet and support everything about America. That is why I think this is a joke and a slap in the face to the American spirit.
( I'm referring to the idea that they have to buy what they build, not this actual post, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif This is a good topic actually)
HGM,
No they didn't fire anybody, Yet, But you have to crawl before you can walk. That is eventually what it will come to if people let this type of "incentive" continue. Once the close parking spot idea is over then what ? head of the line for promotions? then black balled if you don't conform? and on and on.... Give an inch and I guarantee they will slowly take a mile but, the mile will be taken. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

( My livelyhood has depended on the auto industry for 18 years, specifically ford and gm but I personally have never bought a new car. My wife has bought new cars (and some used) and I bought a new boat with two gm motors in it /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.
I agree with fords decision, all the domestics have that policy but not at all sites. If the name on the building isnt on your car, you dont get to park there, dont like it? Well.....

Want to talk about about controversial parking policies: http://www.uawlocal245.org/newsDetail.asp?newsID=226 This was big news about a year ago

Maybe its time to buy a new car, I heard those hyundias are cheap, wonder if they are hiring... )

Funny, I've relied on the industry for 16yrs now..When I was at a dealer making better money than most young people did, I bought my first and last new vehicle.. I do support the company I work for, and totally agree with the policy.. The reason, I wont buy new is that the market is making it cost prohibitive. I personally cant afford the $60,000 truck I would like to have, at least I cant justify the payment. With all the sales offered last year to inflate sales, residual values took a hit. When a good number of newly manufactured vehicles loose 50% of their intitial value after the first couple two years, I just cant see it. So, yes I support them, but I'll let someone else buy the vehicle first and take the loss /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif..

As for the Dodge. Never been a Dodge guy, but I do like that car.. One of my dreams is to take an old car, maybe a '34 Ford and put a modern drivetrain under it. Fuel injected V-8 with all the OBDII emissions components on it(believe it or not), 6 spd manual(maybe 5spd auto), modern rear axle with disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, tuned suspension, etc..(sound familliar, maybe 2003 Cobra drivetrain 390hp 390lbft tq /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)........ Not only would I have an old "clasic" I would have a dependable 20 sum mile to the gallon car with nearly unlimited tuning possibilities... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Best of both worlds I think..... Wouldnt you buy one if it was done right?

This is a cool trend, if you havent seen the GT-500, hold onto your socks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....

Sorry,
But thats the conspiracy theory going again.

I'd like to start by thanking you for your service, its greatly appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I completely understand and agree with your free choice to buy whatever you want. I just dont see the big deal, its not segragation.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.. They are allowed to park at the same facility, not accross town, not in the next county, accross the street. Many people have to walk across the street to work anyhow. If I worked for Toyota and I had the same choice, I would keep my Ford and park across the street.. Couldnt care less, though I understand they want to advertise, show off and reward the loyalty of their employees.. Have you ever recieved a bonus for good work? Same principal. Makes you want to keep working.. If not, your happy with what you have, you get to remain where your at... I dont believe for a minute that the UAW or this countries ambulance chasers would allow a worker to be held back for this(or any other reason).. In '20s maybe, but not today, the times wont allow it....

Terry, I told Cowboydoc that I'd leave the uglyness to others but I keep reading this thread. Lets go back to the beginning your thread title Should workers buy the vehicles they make? My answer is yes if they want to and maybe even It'd look better to the boss if you did. The text of your thread then says should a company make its employees buy the vehicles they make, my answer is absolutely not I'd quit before I was forced to buy but the article doesn't say anything about forcing anybody to do anything except park across the street. Now somewhere in the last several days the thread is looked at like Ford is forcing their employees to buy Fords or they get fired. Thats not in the article at all it says Ford has put out a memo that only Ford or its subsidary products may park in the lot others may park across the street and even the UAW president has applauded the action. I own a business, I issue my employees uniform shirts with our logo on it like much of America's businesses although some even make you pay for your uniform, I don't think that is right but it is a condition of employment made known before you start usually. I expect my employees to wear their shirts daily but I wouldn't throw a big fit if they didn't could be wash day etc. but if on the other hand they wore shirts that advertised my competitors I would take action and I think if you own a business or anyone else reading this that you probably would have an issue with it to. I liken Ford's decision to something of this sort of mentality. We are reading a couple of lines of an article that the media published and we know that they'd never not tell us the whole story. What says that Ford didn't publicize this to their employees We at Ford or XYZ automobile company for that matter are building a special parking lot only to be used by the employees on our staff that own and drive our products to work, this is our way of Thanking You for buying and helping us build our vehicles. We will use pictures of this parking lot in our advertising to help us show America that our employees are proud of where they work and helping to support our business. Anyone who wishes to drive a non Ford vehicle to work will not be reprimanded in any way but we do ask you to please observe our policy of only Ford vehicles in the special Ford parking lot, you may continue to park in the parking lot across the street as has been the policy in the past. Thank You for your help in our new advertising campaign.
Sincerely the boss

Absoloutly.....

Its just a sad state that things like this must be spelled out for folks to understand. Its easier to react negatively than read between the lines and see it as a positive. Like I mentioned earlier, no ones suing yet, must not be an issue to those that work there.. Why do we feel the need to make a big deal about something that didnt effect us in the first place?

Didnt mean that to come accross as an attack to anyone, I'm still confused as to why anyone cares and thinks its an assult to their rights. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif It has been an interesting topic to read others opinions, and I have enjoyed saying my peice though..

HGM,
Yeah, I have received bonuses at work, but not for something that I did ( or bought) What if that "Advertisement" doesn't work what is next. What if Ford Partners with , oh say a shoe company? Then only the employees that wear their shoes are allowed to walk down certain sidewalks? There is a word for that kind of stuff , it is called discrimination.
* your only allowed to park here with this make of vehicle,
* Your only allowed to walk here with these shoes
* Your only allowed to take a break here if you are wearing a Ford shirt,
* You are only allowed to work here if you young ( our target consumers for our failing SUV's)
* etc.. etc...
And the etc..'s will come in time if this is allowed to continue.
Doesn't sound like toe land of the free to me.... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Here's an idea. How about they build a superior vehicle. Then the workers will by one because they want one to drive and not just for the good parking spot.
Stevenf,
You make a good point when you say they are "rewarding" their employees for buying their product. OR you could look at it as they are "punishing" their employees who do not conform by making them walk and banning them from the close parking lot simply because of the way they choose to spend their hard earned money. I'm guessing freedom of choice is just a privledge at Ford not a right.

Well, I definitly respect your right to your opinion..

I do think your worried about nothing though. BTW, there are people out there who will always drive a particular brand vehicle, or never drive another regardless of quality. May be due to deep rooted family tradition, past experience, who knows...

Guess the same can be said for those who believe that someone is trying to hold them down, wheter its a fact or not. If someone believes they are always going to be discriminated against, there will always be some sort of opression for them. There are some in this country that continually look for a reason to be pissed off.. They'll never enjoy freedom because they wont let themselves. BTW, that has nothing to do with race..

You guys can hash this out if you want, I'll try to just follow allong /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.. I'll be worrying more about the real threats we face rather than where I can park my brand "X".. Hey, maybe their hiring, then I could do the right thing by supporting them...??. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifHave fun, lifes too short to be too uptight...
