We also have one of those, not registered, Czechoslovakian bred, and we suspect there's a bit of Husky in there somewhere. But what a Boy Scout, and smart as a whip.

He and his partner (my wife) have an impressive history together.

The pic is K-9 Stryker working a water cadaver search. His most recent find (not this pic) was after the ferry boat wreck in the Baltimore Inner Harbor....he indicated the 6 year old victim under 65 feet of water.

Yes she is AKC registered, Ole Hickory. I got her from a kennel in WI that breeds working tempermented GSDs from German show lines, so she wouldn't do well in a conformation show even without the long coat, but I like the flashy look it gives her. Impeccable tempermented, though.
She has been an absolute amazing dog to bring up. I've always liked GSDs (well, I obviously like all dogs) and after boarding a couple, one in particular, I knew my next dog would be one. They are an incredible breed.

Thats amazing about your wife and the dog . I wish I had time to train my dogs. 2 of mine are sable in color, 2 black and tan,1 black and red,and 1 solid black.

They are wonderful dog's,definately one of the smarter animals in the world

Junk .. that sounds romantic. But I can assure you, it was serendipity that you had that dog so long.

I KNOW of far too many who's dogs disappeared while roaming around or sprinting around in an open back 5 acres.

You were lucky she always made it home. I hope you realize that. A lot never found there way back.

Pete ... that's the other side of the coin. The leash rule is usually directed to the fact that the greys have this 'other mode' they go into. I'm not talking about the hunt instinct that you saw.

But the learned behaviour they carry from their early training at the track kennels. They have a switch that comes on and says run. RUN fast and in any direction until you get tired.

Usually, they're long gone.
Recovery is difficult if not impossible.

I've just added my pound puppy photo. Not sure of the mix - shepherd and lab? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Great mutt. He is the third one we got from the pound. Was flee infested and not a healthy puppy when he got rescued. He turned out to be one friendly dog. Any way are you still out there? MIA 2-3 Days now /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
