I don't have pics of my sideboards but I did something similar to UpNorth1. I have a 16-foot trailer so I used 1x8 southern pine boards and made the sides in 2 pieces (8-foot each) so they are easier to handle. Then I mounted them to 2x4's that run down into stake pockets. The only difference is instead of hinge pins I just used the trailer connectors that are made for this:

I actually went a little farther and mounted 3/4" galvanized conduit the length of the sideboards on the outside about 12" below the top. I then bowed some 3/4" PVC pipes crosswise inside the supports. Now I can stretch a tarp over the top and use bungees to strap it down to the conduit.

It will be a little while until I have this set up again (I usually don't keep the sides on my trailer). Once I get it installed I'll try to take some pictures and update this post.

I always loved wooden sides. Is there a possibility to order a modern pick up truck with a bed made of wood in the US?

I showed the sides for my 16' trailer early in this thread. Here are the sides for my 10' trailer, wood slats for the front sides & ends, ramps for the rest of the sides:

The 4 x 8' Snowco just uses aluminum ramps:

Same ones I used. I also had the straight version of the corner brackets to join 2 pannels together. Dont remember if I used the straigh or angled sliding bolt latches. Same thing only has the non moving bent 90 or not so you can install them on a corner or straight, depending on where your mounting post is.

I’ve split more regular limber than I care to count for dump truck sideboards. Oak isn’t a lot better but the pine is worthless. I’ve found double layered advantec to hold up pretty good. I’d like to have some laminated beam but it’s $10 a foot.

Put wood sides on my 18’ dovetail equipment trailer. Used pressure treated 2x4’s and 5/4 x 6” deck boards. They’re HEAVY! I can get the tailgate off by myself, but the 16’ sides are difficult even with 2 strong men. Luckily, I have this tractor. Throw two lifting slings around it and they come off easy. It’s nice to have both a flatbed for hauling the tractor or picking up pallets with stuff and a utility trailer as well. The sideboards are 32” high from the deck of the trailer.
