on the topic of ice cream. another thing I noticed is that most manufactures are whipping the ice cream more to cause a a lot to air in the ice cream. I notice a lot because I live about 2000 feet higher than the stores I buy it at and in the Summer you have a challenge getting it home before it begins to melt. The slight melting and the expanding air cause the tops to expand up and sometimes ice cream leaks out.

When I built my house about 26 years ago, I made a minor error installing the toilet paper holder. The sides were separate, and I installed them slightly too close to each other. The roll of TP would touch and just barely bind when unrolling. Today there is almost a half inch gap:eek:.

Whew! And all this time I thought it was my butt that was getting bigger!

Bedlam and the rest of you are absolutely correct. Do the manufactures think we wouldn't notice or are to stupid?? yah the dog food that used to be 50 lbs in the brand I get is now 35, same price or higher. same with many of the other products you mentioned. you now have to go to places like Costco that supersize just to get the old standard sizes/quantity. Guess when a 6 pack of 12 ouncer's become 10 ouncer's there will be an uprising. :D

Had to get dog food today and checked the weights of the bags found 1 at 40 lbs the rest were the same size bag and they were not at all filled to capacity weights were 34.5 34.6 34.8 36.4 and so on and the kgs weight fractional also.
Bought a 5 gal pail of driveway sealer lately is only 4.5 gals now price is the same, the only people who benefits from this is the packaging co.and the end user gets sc####.

ased on previous post with responses from manufacturer, I think your dog food was downsized due to complaints from customers that the 40 pound bag was too heavy. RE the driveway sealer, I believe this is due to complaints from customers that with new shorter driveways they had product leftover :D

A wife said she wanted a breast enlargement. Husband told her to rub some toilet paper between them every day. She asked how could this help. He said he didn't know but it had done an excellent job on her butt!

I can tell you one thing that has not gotten lighter. 80# bags of concrete mix.
I have to mix 6 bags at a time tomorrow. They weigh the same as they did 15 years ago except they feel heavier.

How about potato chips. This has always been a pet peeve with me. The bag is about 14" tall and the chips inside are 4" tall. You buying 10" of AIR.

Then there's the vegetable isle. You buy the broccoli or others and they leave on a useless stem that the first thing you do is cut off and throw away when you get home, but you paid $$$$$$ a pound to throw that stem away.

How about ice cream that they fluff up with air which doubles the size of the container but not the volume of ice cream. They fluff up toilet paper also by rolling it loose.

How about they cut down on all the smoke and mirrors and give me more product and less package.

same thing has happend in the fast food world.

in a place were they were always competing to give away just a tad more than the next guy for the same buck MUCH has changed.

i didnt relize how much till the other day.

When my wife and i first started dateing (about 13 years ago) they would do 5 for $5 roast beef sandwiches at arbys.

then it was 5 for 5.55 then 5 for 5.95 what i hadnt noticed was they moved to Jr. version sometime in there but still 5 for 5.95.

then they brought back the "classic" 5 regular for $5. we didnt think anything about it till we ordered it and as soon as we sat down and started opening up sandwiches did we both comment "boy these look big vs what we normally get"

thats when we realized they had switched from reg to jr size on the menu.

Do i think it was a cost of food issue, or a cost of payroll issue? absolutely not! i think it was an issue of stockholders demanding ever higher returns every quarter.

ie it cost the consumer more while the companies make more. who wins?

Now I certainly don't know anything about their financial situation, but do you really think their costs have not gone up? That would be hard for me to imagine.

But anyway, I do like Arby's roast beef sandwiches with Horsey sauce and curly fries.:D

everyones costs have gone up. it's just our pay that stays the same or goes down.

And we just keep buying ... what do you do? They got us, we need it and we pay for it ....

I don't believe it! and they shrunk the ice cream the OJ and all of the other groceries cuz they were to heaver,How about the anti freeze they are pushing now 50/50 premix saw in store the other day was $1 cheaper than regular so for every 2 needed gallons in system they are shipping 1 gallon of water and an extra jug.what happened to the window washer fluid they once sold in a small can and you mixed it with 1 gal of water.
At one time things were sold in oz.-lb or 1/2 pint, pint qt 1/2 gallon.gallon now it's 1.25643 oz and the metric numbers are printed larger than the American weights and measure's to confuse the consumer.
