While mowing this weel I noticed that one of the rear hinges on my batwing mower was broke.. I could tell when i folded it as it sagged and tried to bind.
I figured I'd try out my brand new hobart stickmate AC 235 welder.
Jacked up, blocked and cribbed the mower, used a jack and prybar to get the wing in correct position. cleaned up the hinge with a 4" angle grinder, and set out to welding it up. Used a 1/2" pievce of cold rolled as filler at the crack. A few 6011 rods later and it was good to go with a little dressing from the grinder and some touch up paint after cooling.
Then i noticed a front flat.. A 10.00-16
Jacked and cribbed the front end.. got that monster off and headed to the tire store. Tires are getting wore down alot.. I need a new pair.. but none on hand. For now I got a boot installed and a new tube.. should hold air for a few months to get thru mowing season.. then i can replace the fronts as a pair in the winter.
Not sure if i should go back with tri ribs.. or those others that have more ribs.. like 4/5.. etc? ( comments? )
Got home.. reinstalled rim.. and wouldn't you know it.. i twisted a stud off. Drove out left over slug of stud... no spares on hand.. tire store didn't have any.. had to drive 45 minute trip 1-way to NH where I bought a bag of them... as i know I'll twist another off when i change tires later this year.
Finally got that all done and it has blown my day!
Now I gotta shower and head off to work!
Oh yeah.. in between me starting the tractor to manipulate the batwing and then moving for tire replacement.. I rat crawled up under the exhaust manifold and got stuck. When i parked tractor a little while ago I found it.. what's left of it.. cooked smelly rat.. yummy....
