In Vermont, fire departments and rescue squads (ambulance) are allowed to run red and/or white(clear) and/or siren.

Your chief signs the light permit application and you then send it to the state DMV. If your driving record isn't a mess the state will approve the permit. Each department has its own policies as to how many and where you can use mount the lights and if you are allowed a siren.

My fire department and rescue squad (two different organizations) have no restrictions.


By the way, Whelen has a manufacturing facility about an hour from my home.

I'm late to this party, but I've got to say GREAT JOB!

Since I live on a private road, with almost no traffic, I only added work lights to my Kioti CK30.

But on my personal vehicles I only run Whelen LED's. On my Ford F250, I have a full Liberty lightbar, plus a combination of other models all over the truck. (I respond directly to most accidents and other fire department related incidents and I want to be seen.) On my commuter vehicle - Ford Focus - I have some Whelen TIR 6's in the grille, and a pair or the ne M7 led's in the rear window.

The new M series leds are AMAZING. They are reasonably priced, have multiple patterns controlled by an internal flasher, and are true surface mounted lights.

By the way, I have no personal involvement with Whelen. I'm just a big fan of a company that is American owned, operated and manufactured.

You might be late to the party but at least you showed up There's a few good lighting manufactures out there but it's of my opinion Whelen is about the best. I'll have to look into there "M" series lighting and see what it's all about. Great info. Thanks!
