Silver Bottle, Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost Additive (questions)

Well, I can see this thread has run it's course and is deteriorating. Don't say "we". It is too all inclusive. What the liberals decided was forced on me, I didn't let them decide what I can/can not have. I and some others were out voted.

I will admit, emission standards are good up to a point. However, just like anything else, too much of a good thing can be detrimental when pushed to extremes.

Seems you guys are rather gullible.
Simply use the products recommended by the manufacturer (and not by brand but by SAE specs) and you will be good.
Only exception IMHO is anti gelling additive for fuel as U can not be sure if you have summer or winter (anti gell additives) in the fuel you just purchased.
All those additives (well most) are advertising hype.

Kind of like septic tank additives.
You don't need to add anything! S--t simply provides all the bacteria needed.

OK, if your fuel is long timed stored then bacteria can come into play but 4 that to happen water is needed in the fuel as water will introduce algae.
But then suitable filters will overcome any problems.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think it's gullibility; I do think these are legitimate concerns, based on facts. I do agree that most additives are well marketed but do not provide any real benefit. I've cautiously tried to express this point without being offensive. However, there's something to be said for frankness.

EMISSION STANDARDS; Isn`t it a shame that we let liberals decide what we can/can not have.

I've thought exactly the same thing. Getting back to the decent clean air that God intended and that we used to have as our birthright ought to be a conservative banner rather than a liberal one.

Although in the larger picture, if two sides could agree on anything at all, it seems like getting the air we all breath back into decent shape would be that thing. All it takes is some hard work and sacrifice, and in return gives us so many benefits.

hopefully, rScotty

Does the new BX23S have the DPF...?

No if you dont see def tank on your BX then dont worry about it. I believe it starts with the BX25d's and up. I just dont remember what year it started. maybe someone here can help. you have a tier 3 motor. def is for tier 4 engines.

I`ve been going all over the diesel forums everywhere... seems theres an awful lot of people saying NOT to put 2-stroke oil in these new diesels.

i am not sure why you would want to have oil on the fuel side of the pistons? this is where the glow plug are so lets not gunk them up with carbon deposits from 2 stroke oils.

The area where I live is all logging companies and they put more hours on their machines in one week than most of us do in a year and that is what they use HOWE's. The one machine that was here the first of the year while they were cutting mine off had very high hours and it was going in for the first engine rebuild when it left here, so it must work

howes, power service, rislone, techrons, whatever you find on the market , i would say they all work as they been around. its just that power service and howes is more available then other stuff when you walk into most stores they have it. i will not knock any or prefer one brand but i rather stick with one brand and keep going till it give me problems.

PS Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost lists 10 - 30% Alkyl Nitrates - this is the 2-EHN. It's too bad they don't specify it better. 40 - 90% petroleum distillates - fuel oils - adds lubricity, but little to no impact on cetane number. You would have to dose your fuel many times the recommended dose rate to get a significant rise in cetane number.

I think if lubrication is your primary concern and not the cetane number so much, the 2-stroke oil is probably your best bet.

i am not adding power service for the centene numbers, just doing it to keep fuel from gelling and from growing crap in it if i ever let it sit.

I wouldn't run 2 stroke oil in a new engine. New engines were made for the current fuel. Older diesel engines were designed at a time when diesel had a lot more lubrication in it.

Adding two stroke oil won't hurt a thing in an older engine. Think about it....it's designed to burn in a spark ignition 2 stroke engine. Secondly, it's an oil. Diesel is an oil. It's just fine to run a little in an older diesel engine to help lubricate the moving parts in a diesel engine. Been doing it for years and the engine still runs great.

I use PS white bottle in every tank. I can't guarantee that my summer diesel won't end up being used in the winter. So, I just make sure whatever diesel I have will run in either summer or winter. Simplifies matters for me.

I would have to agree with you. I was just confused why people were talking about putting 2-stroke oil in these new tractors. Made no sense to me, thats why i had to ask.

With the exception of the first few months of ULSD sales in 2006-2007. ULSD has addition lubricant blended in at the refinery . No extra feel good lucky charms required in the fuel tank.

Wasn't sure I'd find it, but it only took one coffee.....

Creeky has another good post somewhere else about the problems even the latest/greatest dispensing systems on tankers can have with ULSD/water, but the above link describes his instrumented observations about the prevalence of water with ULSD. Worth noting - he sees little/nothing for cold temps.
