Since I'm not very computer literate, can anyone tell me why in a 45 minute session on this site I have to log in several times some days and only once on other days.

Do you clear your cookies?
If you log off your PC (with or without restarting the PC), you'll have to log back in each time. It's also possible the TBN cookie is corrupted.
What you can do is delete the TBN cookie (I think it's named [your username]@tractorbynet.txt and log in again. This time, select the optioon to remember your login.

If you're using IE7, you can delete all the cookies. Make sure you have your usernames and passwords if you do this.

I logged on August 1, 2004 and have never logged off. Maybe this is why my name is first on the list under "Currently Active Users". Should we log off for some reason?

Nope...shouldn't log off unless you're having problems. I think I logged on about 6 months ago when I cleared my cookies for another, non-TBN reason.

Toad, however, seems to be having problems...

Out front, as you log in, look for a checkbox to mark "remember me" or something to this nature.

As long as you don't clear out your cookies, you will remain. However, by not clearing cookies, that can create another problem. I use a program to manage my cookie list of ones to keep. The rest go by the wayside each day.

I never log out . . ., but . . . I use Norton SystemWorks and have it set to do a weekly cleanup that includes deleting all cookies, so once a week I have to log on on several websites. I do have a long list of usernames and passwords written down, but seldom use that list because I also use Norton's Password Manager which automatically fills in those things for me.

My name is first on "currently active users" on my browser. I think if you don't respond or use the site after a few minutes, it automatically logs you off, or that seems to be the case with me. I don't have anything special checked.

I only log off at night when I shut down the computer. These problems occur while I'm on the site. Often I'll be replying to a thread, I know I'm not the fastest typist in the wold, but I was a teletype operator in the army; and when I hit the button to submit my reply I'm told I have to log in. My automatic cleanup routine happens at about 3am, so it's not eliminating my cookie while I'm on the site. I'm stumped.

Tallyho8,
Whenever anyone logs onto TBN, their name is always first on the currently active users. The rest are then alphabetically listed. On any site I am a member I log in and click remember me. When done I log out and clear all cookies.
