Skidding Winches

I was split between the Farmi 501 & the Wallenstein FX 90.They seemed to be similar with me leaning towards the FX 90 because of the hitch. But now with the pulling weight difference between the newer FX 85,I am leaning more towards ti Farmi 501 again. My tractor is a Kubota M6800.And I love the front and rear Diff locks.

The Wallenstein FX 110 compares to the Farmi 501 spec wise and you can probably get the FX 140 which pulls 14000 lbs for less money than the Farmi.

Does the Farmi come with a protective screen, hitch or choker chains, like the Wallenstein does?

OR are they options that push the Farmi price even higher?

Back when I bought my winch, Farmi was my second choice, and Farmi was quite a bit more money, by the time you added the options that Wallenstein already came with.

Plus I liked the idea that the Wallenstein factory was in Canada, instead across the pond like Farmi...

Yes those are nice trailers and I can almost see 14K for trailer with pulp loader but not for the basic model with no acc., it's not even a 12ft. bed. I see around 2K in materials maybe 3K if the stakes come out in two pieces, which is what I need to load and unload.

That's the smaller of their 2 trailers. The other one has 11' bed with 11,500 lbs capacity suggested for 45 hp tractors and up. It's 20-23K depending on model.

I think one 1/2 way in between would be ideal. Seems like there is a bit of a gap between the 2

I've been checking out some pto winches, some of them have a hand remote, I seen lot's of times when getting firewood that would be some handy. The only issue that soured me is the tiny weeny buttons. The people using them were dressed up in Star Wars like suke suits doing some bare knuckle chain rapping, we'll sure if you got small hands and no gloves that would be ok. BUT.......

In my world that's not reality, suns not always shinning it's not always 40 degrees or above, lot of times it's below freezing, snow on the ground, basic cotton, flannel, wool shirt, overalls/work pants, but always and every time, XXL work gloves/winter gloves for chain rapping and cable pulling, so if I cant push the in/out button on the winch remote control with gloves on, I'm not buying.

Have you ever tried running a GPS while riding a motor bike and wearing gloves.

Stupid little touch buttons! Made for tiny woman’s fingers.

I found one, a Uniforest winch and remote that can be used with gloves, but the rest of this wood harvesting equipment is bad design, obviously they didn't contact me for input. First they take the loader off and put a half useless blade on, really, the FEL is the best thing to have in the woods, especially one with grapple.

The winch appears to run off hydraulics with the cable spooled up on front of tractor, but what erk IRK me was the cable height when winching, looked like about 2 ft. off ground, great if you want to plow a garden or gather up a brush pile between the winch and logs. I wouldn't even drive that tractor out of the factory until the get that cable up min. of 5 ft. 6 on that size tractor would be better, above ground, next have optional lower pulley on for certain winching applications, but I did like the glove operated remote.

Still checking out different pto winches and noticing no one's using an improved latch hook. Everyone seem's to use those same stile choker hooks, I see one guy using a choker chain with a ring instead, not for ME. I'm running 5 chokers, 4 years ago I got so fed up with those choker hooks unhooking when I hook on another tree and even worse is trying to unhook 5 hooks at the landing, I had to unhook 2 then winch up again and release...............

For the last 4 years I've been using 3 of these> Tulsa Chain Hooks, (GRADE 100 CLEVIS SLING HOOK WITH FORGED LATCH) for 5/16 chain and 2 regular choker hook on shorter chains, 5 chains in all. At first I didn't think they would hold up, but they take a pounding and it's a lot easier to unhook, just press the latch, no more fiddling diddling piddling...........

When I called about purchasing a Farmi 501, the screen was an option and the choker chains. They threw in the screen, 4 chokers and shipping. I initially wanted the Wallenstein for the hitch however my PTO wasn't enough horses to run it. Very happy with the Farmi though.
