Slasher size for a CK30?

Coyote machine... I got my CK30 Toy Tractor from the local dealer. Sadly it doesn't have a bucket on it like mine.

Hi Alien.

My dealer had a row of model Kiotis for sale when we bought our CK35. The wife was more than a little cheesed off when they wouldn't throw one in for the grandson, when we had just spent almost $30,000 with them! They wanted around $80 for one :(

FWIW, I'm running a 5 foot slasher on the CK35 with no problems.

Thanks JohnMacca. From memory my toy was around $30 - $40 I didn't get mine for nothing either. We both must have tight cheeked dealers.. :D

Boy, my dealer gave me one and then sent another for Christmas. I guess I have a good dealer. Sadly Wallace Tractors in Lake Ariel PA is no longer a Kioti dealer. Think he does Massey and Mahindra now. Great dealer.

My CK30 runs the 1.9 meter Caroni just fine, and I never turn the engine more than 2100 rpms. I still have a 5' Bush Hog that I ran for 24 years behind a Kubota that was a little more than half as big as the CK30, (Weight and power wise). Never hurt the tractor, and always got the job done, while running well under PTO rated rpm. I think that the general rule of thumb of 5hp per foot, is for people that feel they have to mow at 8 to 10 mph. Or maybe some feel that it is required to make a 6' cut if you're pulling a 6' mower.

Mower cutting height, ground speed, and cutting width can be adjusted to fit the job at hand. Then, as the area to be mowed improves over time, you'll be glad you have a larger size mower.

Great feedback on running the Caroni flail on a 30hp tractor. Agree completely regarding ability to "downsize" mower when needed by making partial passes and benefit of a wider mower than the old 5hp/foot rule. One size does not fit all.

Hill Billy Bob has put my thoughts on the subject into words. I will be in no hurry when I mow and am quite happy to slow down if the going gets tough. As he says, in time when the pasture is tamed it will be easy going. I used a 6' slasher for a day and took my time and had no problems. I even spun it at 1000 rpm briefly to try it and it worked fine so I have little doubt that the CK30 could handle it OK.

Anyone seen these Spiral hammer Flails?FLAIL MOWER HP-KDM150 MECHANICAL SIDESHIFT Seems they require less HP than a standard flail mower. I have to do some more looking around first though.

A flail is a flail. I rather doubt there is any horsepower difference for a given width and duty rating. What does differ and can be arbitrary is how the manufacturer chooses to rate them. Beware marketing BS.

A normal Flail has all the blades in line and they all contact the grass at the same time, The Spiral hammers are not in line and cut individually so the load is not on all hammers in one row at once. I believe that is a good system and would result in a harmonically smoother cut. Anyway I am very interested in that one in the last link.

At the speed a flail moves, you are talking millisecond differences in contact time between in line and staggered blade contact. Given the momentum of the rotor I wouldn't think it makes any practical difference.

If the company has data comparing their own machine with two different rotor setups that would be interesting but otherwise it sounds like an attempt by the marketing dept to differentiate their machine from others.
