I've worked 12 hour rotating shifts for 31 years now. I can't sleep over about 5 hours when I'm working nights, no matter how dark I get the bedroom. Can do a little better when I'm working days, maybe 6 hours. I get up at 3:45AM and usually in bed by 9:15PM. Working nights I usually can get in bed before 7AM and up by 12PM. I have a Tempurpedic mattress and like it but it's probably not worth what it costs.
