Yep, sounds like sleep apnea to me also. I've got it real bad and nasal passages are so narrow that I can't even push air through with the cpap. Wake up choking all the time, tired a lot and headaches. Went to a nose doc and he said that I don't know what its like to breath. Finally going to get surgery on January 3rd after too many years suffering. Septoplasty or something like that. So anyway, get it checked out, apnea can really hurt you long term.

I also have sleep apnea and have been on the CPAP machine for 12 years. Tossing and turning to the extent that you describe doesnt sound like sleep apnea alone. You could have some kind of circulatory problems that make you toss and turn. I have started having to turn over several times during the night in the past few years due to cramp and such in arms and legs. Muscle cramps in my legs are pretty severe sometimes after lots of hot sweaty work. I started taking potassium supplements and this helped with the cramps but not the "going to sleep" feeling in my arms. I guess it is just a thing with getting to the 6 decades + on the age

I sleep pretty good i guess, and compared to some I must sleep great. I always sleep at least 7 hours or so. I sleep best on the days I have taken a couple hour bike ride at a pace that gets and keeps my heart rate up. I also sleep good after any other exersize and sleep really good after lovemaking.
Something that works for me if I wake up at night thinking about work or kids or whatever. I read this a long time ago somewhere and have modified it a little for me.

1. I relax my entire body starting at my feet and working my way up. ( I can feel myself sink into the bed a little more when I do this)
2. I say the lords prayer to myself slowly and quietly, sometimes twice.
3. I count to myself very slowly in my head to one. I repeat over and over, one, one, one, one,
4. The next thing I know is I wake up.

Works for me, but if you have sleep apnea as a friend of mine does, you really should see a Dr.

The Lords prayer is only for the middle of the night if I wake up
I never have have to pray for lovemaking, maybe beg a little :cloud9:

To the OP: I, too, was a doubter until I had the sleep study.I now have a CPAP machine, and believe me, it makes a world of difference. Go get the study, you'll be glad you did.

I sleep more soundly in my recliner than I do in bed. My wife says I breathe better sitting up. I don't fall asleep as easily as I used to. Until a few years ago it would take maybe 30 seconds for me to fall asleep. Now it takes a few minutes.

Hmmmmm, 20 years Army and the only the only aspect of sleep to a nooner was possibly something after the nooner. :)

You mentioned that you work odd hours, Jimmy. That can be a big problem with sleep quality.

Most of my life I have worked rotating shifts. It takes about 3 years to get used to shift work. The last couple of years I have worked just day hours. I cannot tell you how much of a difference in the way I feel now...as compared to being on shifts. I feel like I am in my twenties again! I have more energy than I have had in years. I think you also need to factor in odd working hours into your equation, also.

Several of the shift workers also have been using the cpap machines. And it can be a combination of bad work hours and sleep apnea.
