Sleep habits, mine are a disaster. How 'bout you?

Most of my life I have worked rotating shifts.

It's been a long time ago, but for 10 years I worked rotating shifts; a month at a time on each of the 3. About the time you got accustomed to a shift, you changed. Not good for your health, but was good for the department.

I've gotta say the way I sleep is bizarre. I roll around, wake up about every hour, twist the sheets up, snore, wake up and read a book for 2 hours in the middle of the night. My wife and I now sleep in two different rooms on two different floors of the house because of this. It's so bad that my sheets need to be put back on the bed every day because when I roll over I pull them right off the bed (even the slip cover from the mattress). I even somehow get the pillow covers off in the night.

I seem to get enough rest but who knows how I do it. How about you guys, do you sleep well? Are you a toss and turner like me? Just curious.

Same exact scenario for me.

We bought a foam mattress years ago when recommended by a bone cracker. Best danged bed I have slept on. I think Bird had a discussion thread years ago about the Sleep Number beds and TBNers liked the bed. We have been very happy with the foam bed.

Later,
Dan

I do the same thing. I completely pull off the fitted sheet and mattress cover. I even pull the pillows out of the covers. On top of that, I sleep walk. Not often, but every once in a while. My wife says I'll completely get out of bed, have my eyes open and even carry on a conversation with her, although she says I make no sense. The other week, she says I got up and put on clothes and proceeded to "work on things" around the room jabbering the whole time. Then I took the clothes off and climbed back into bed. I woke up the next morning wearing two pairs of underwear:confused3:

I think my oldest daughter also sleep walks. After putting her to bed one night, we found her later in the night sleeping on top of our dresser in our master bedroom closet. She must have thought she was climbing back into her bunk bed.

I'll probably sign up for a sleep study soon. Certainly something is going on.

I've got one of those tempurpedic mattresses and its ok, but not great. Regardless of the mattress I seem to get too sore to sleep after 5 or 6 hours. Haven't tried the sleep number bed, but heard it's decent.

My wife had a brother who, at least a few years ago, said they like their tempurpedic mattress. She has 2 other brothers who tried them for a short time and returned them.

Our Select Comfort Sleep Number bed is 10 years and 4 months old. They seem terribly expensive, but it's the best bed we've ever had.

Good comments everyone.

1. The cramps comment. I don't have cramps but do get sore on the side I sleep on. That does wake me up.
2. Bed. About a year ago I got a top of the line bed. It made a HUGE difference for the better. I still wake up many times but not as often. The old bed was too hard and my weight would crush whatever part of me was on the bottom and I'd wake up because of it.
3. I will discuss with my doctor as recommended.

Thanks all.

A bit late here in the thread, but about 20 years ago I was having a terrible time staying awake almost every day, it was like I was only getting a few hours of sleep a night but I was trying to get at least 7-8 hours. The doctors I saw all told me there was nothing wrong with me, until I found one really smart medical man who suspected I had a sleep disorder. He sent me to a sleep study center and they monitored me overnight. Turned out I WAS getting plenty of sleep, and very deep sleep at that.

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy...a very uncommon sleep disorder. No matter how much sleep a narcoleptic gets, they never feel rested and are usually sleepy whenever they are awake. The side benefit is, I don't know what insomnia is like....
