Slip Clutch ?

I just installed a Eurocardan Slip Clutch from Agri-Supply to my Woods BB60 Brush Hog.With it has come a new noise that I can't figure out.My question is should the slip clutch be making any noise?It sounds like something rubbing.The gear box is rated at 50hp. and my DK35 has a PTO rating of 28 hp.With no manuel how do I know the spring tension is set for my tractor and mower.The guy I ordered it from said to just put it on.Could it be that the plates are slipping,I have not hit anything with it and it started making noise from the get go. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The clutch should not be making any noise. Have you done an internet search for the mfg to see if they have a site and can supply you with info?

I found their site. You might want to send them an e-mail for directions on how to set up the clutch.

I have had no luck finding anything on this clutch.I think someone else tried also on an earlier post on this board.The one good thing about the Woods BB60 is how quiet it runs so this new noise I have was easy to pick up.I'm assuming it's coming from the new clutch, as it was quiet before I added it.

I would guesss that if there is noise comming from it.. that it is slipping... you need to address this before you burn your plates up.

Are you sure your PTO shaft is not too long now? (did ya check it after installing the clutch?)

Take the clutch off and see if the noise goes away...

Well I decided to take the slip clutch off and see if it was the problem with the noise I here(and yes I shortened the PTO halves).With it off I noticed the noise went away.So before I put the clutch back on I took a marker and drew a line across the plates,put it back on and ran it a couple of minutes at about 2200 RPM.When I shut it off the line had shifted on the plates one of them about a half inch.This would seem to show that the plates are moving under normal use.I'll either have to get in touch with EuroCardan(they don't seem to have an e-mail,just a place on there web site for suggestions)or try tightening up the springs a little.

Some slippage will be normal... the noise is minor... when you adjust the spring height (8 springs total)... just changing the ht. by a mere .5 mm... you will greatly change the nm characteristics...

What kind of noise is it? If the clutch plates were constantly slipping... you would see SMOKE!... and then FIRE... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Really... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif If anything, see if you can swap it out with another assembly... but the entire assembly is only about 6 or 7 pieces... (but don't adjust it, just for the sake of adjusting it... or you may dig yourself a deeper hole... )

I just got my Woods BB60CW today. It has the optional slip clutch and chain guards.

It runs real smooth and quiet to my ears. Now I may not have the best hearing...but it sure made no more noise than my Woods RD6000 RFM did...until, that is, I starting cutting with it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure what help this is. I did notice in the manual that Woods indicates that their slip clutch is a dual disk. IF I remember correctly. Not sure what differenct that might make either...
