I'm about to buy a Yanmar SA425 with front end loader and backhoe... But was also thinking of the SA325 (smaller rear tires) cuz it's cheaper.

Was told the larger, heavier tires (SA425) in the rear (115 lbs more than on the SA325) balance the tractor out better, making it just a little more stable with loads. Yes? Or BS from the dealer?
Clearance of the larger tires only adds 1.4". Price diff is about $1100.

I will be using the tractor half on my yard (grass) and half in the wooded area, clearing some property, taking out small stumps, logging some downed trees, digging up rocks, maybe building a wall, etc.
Would you go with turf tires or the ag tires? How badly would the ag tires tear up my grass? My lawn is not really a pristine lawn but don't want to damage it if the ag tires would tear it up. I have some weeds, etc but it's green. Also might consider doing some snowplowing with a blade. What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ask in the Yanmar section :)

look here,

The extra 1.4-inches is a complete diameter. It does add more stability. You mentioned pulling stumps and such.

I don't go to a dealer for tractor tires, unless you like getting soaked in prices. Do you live near an interstate and a truck stop with repair facilities. Many of those also will do Ag tires. Some of the selected Goodyear tires stores do plenty of Ag tire business. Don't get soaked by the tractor dealer. Shop around like an educated consumer.

Thanks for your reply... Maybe an admin can move this thread to the Yanmar section if necessary? I thought it would be more of a tire question...

As for tires, I was asking about selecting what to get on a new SA425. I had the option of turf tires or industrial R4's. I actually went to the dealer today and kept what was on there... It's an industrial R4 tire. Was told that tire is not too bad on turf. If I had to shop for tires, I definitely would be shopping around.

Anyway, I ended up buying a Yanmar SA425 today... It was a good price.
