Thanks Eddie for everything! Without a lot of the advice I got from you here this project would have some major flaws. I got the dock nicely reinforced as you suggested and we had 7 people on it recently. I put 6 Christmas trees on top of the ice tied to cinder blocks. Just today they all went through the ice. I hope I made the sides "ugly" enough to support the minnows that we will be adding soon.

I will finally be able to plant grass along the sides as the snow has melted and spring has sprung. Again, thanks for your help and everyone else that took the time to reply.

I just found and skimmed the whole thread. Great Picture. Think of having an artist render it in oil (my niece in MA does this for family and my BIL did my 71 Z28).

I hope to be doing this in the near future, tho' this is a much bigger project then I'm planning. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures.

I also love the post/beam construction and your "cathedral". You've done well.

Thought I would update my back yard pond project now that it is finished. Its was a fun project to undertake with a relatively small amount of money. All told with landscaping, Dock, excavating, concrete sidewalk, and tree removal it was around 30k. I have attached some more recent photos featuring my 2 nieces enjoying themselves fishing and kayaking. I wouldn't change a thing on this project except maybe I should have trucked in more dirt so the dam would be less steep.

We put up some wood duck houses when the ice was on so we could place them over the water. We were fortunate enough to get ducks in the spring, the hen has been incubating 13 eggs for about 3 weeks now, jump day for the ducklings should be in the next few weeks.

Last year at this time, right after we put in the sidewalk.

That is all beautiful. The Wood Ducks really add color in motion. Post more photos when the eggs hatch, please.

Thanks Kyle. Otto is right, it's a yellow perch.....very tasty cool water fish very abundant in the Great Lakes. The grass is tall fescue and it's still spotty in places but coming along. Putting down topsoil did the trick.
