I was going to go the flex shaft way, but ended up with a small, Herd M-96 PTO shaft spreader. Worked fine for me once I figured out the proper combination of the bottom opening and tractor speed. I find it better for fertilizer pellets than grass seed, however.

I've got a pull behind, and I really don't like it. I went and got a decent 3pt mount one with the flex shaft, and have had good luck with it... needs grease fittings though!

Soundguy, which brand did you buy? I bought a pull behind and I don't like it either, subsequently it is hanging on my wall in the garage.

The one I got came from Home depot.. I'll check the brand next time I go by the barn ... mine is hanging on the wall too.

I have both, been around the farm for 25-30 years. The flex shaft finally went, the motorized units bad motor was replaced with a heater/blower motor from a nearby salvage yard for less than $10.00. Like em both, electric easier to repair, I think the shaft is somewhere around $75.00. Will convert it to electric someday. Hope this helps. Can't remember the manufacturer, both down at the shop hanging around.

IH B414, Yanmar 2220D, Not nearly enough attachments.

If you use NACL, make sure you clean out the spreader good.... most plants aren't tolerant of it. There are a few costal grasses and creasote, and such that are.. but not many.

I'f you are using the epsom salt stuff.. should be ok... fertalizer in effect.

How about the foot print of the ATV tires, do you have turf's?
Or are the dirt tires of the ATV O.K. because of the light weight ? I was thinking of changing out the dirt tires on the ATV for turf's in the Spring, but maybe that's not required, would like your opinion..

It's not a matter of weight so much. The ATV tires can cause a little superficial turf damage when you make turns. Not ruts or anything, just tearing the top of the grass. I wish our ATV had turf tires because we don't go out mudding or anything like that. But the problem is not very significant, not enough to spend the money, for me.

Sorry it took so long. I just got done smokin' over that drop spreader from home depot.. and aside from a single sku tag, and a warning sticker.. there is not a single bit of info on it.. not castings.. no part numbers.. nothing even on the injection molded peices... Must be whomever was the lowest bidder that day when the Hdepot buyer was doing inventory... Sorry I wasn't much help.

Perhaps some of these other fine individuals here might enlighten us as to who makes garden equipment sold under the home depot brand?

thanks,

Soundguy
