Small tractor hay baling???

I thought of that too but the two balers weigh almost the same. Its a shame no manufacturer ever put a counter balance in the machine to soften the stroke. The rocking wears hitchs out fast.

Well i really don't know what all the fuss is about!! :D I use a 1965 MF135 diesel with an old MF#3 baler or NH273, a NH469 9' Haybine and mow and bale 60 acres every year for last 20 years without the slightest problem. I have rolling and hilly terrain, no loaded tires, lots of HP and have never felt that i was being unduly "rocked around" by the balers. JJ.

Most of my years of "hayin'" were with a 273 New Holland. (I bought a Deere 336 about 5 years ago) The 273 (and likewise the #3 Massey baler) were designed and built with small farms and small tractors in mind. They are good choices if someone wants to bale with a compact IMHO. I'll always believe the guy who "invented" the New Holland baler owned a round barn though. :) All those bananna shaped bales were hard to stack in a square building!

Still have my #56 rake and #451 mower. Old 273 finally just had enough....Must have baled a million bales in it's lifetime.

I agree, I am using a NH 426 and it has intersting shapes if the bale chamber is not fead evenly.

The best for squarness was an old Massy 35. It was a great bale, square and dependable, but sloooow.

The new hesstons are taking over here.

Don't think of taking somthing like a 400 seires baler without atlease 60 hp.

Yes i have to agree with that. I mostly cured the 273 of the Banana bale business by installing a bale retarder kit. Still makes a good bale as long as the windrows are not to light. I don't believe how well the old #3 MHF still works after all this time. JJ.

I learned to live with the 273. Constant adjustments on the bale tensioner kept the bales reasonably straight. Just more adjusting than other brands.....

Dad had a #3. He bought it after I moved out on my own, so I didn't get much time with it.

When I bought the Deere 336, I found out that there was such a thing as a baler that you adjusted and left it alone. I'd go an entire summer with minimal wrenching. Just a visit with the grease gun and fill the twine box. Always wanted to try a NEWER New Holland.

Doesn't matter now. No more baling for me! In an hour or so, I'm headed out at first light to start discing 28 acres of old pasture to get ready to seed. Gonna turn 'em into hay fields, but my son will bale for me now. He's got a new round baler. (Vermeer Rebel 5400) I farmed for 35 years without ever owning a baler newer than 10 years old (when I bought them) The boy's owned his place for a year now, and already has all new hay equipment. He's got big ideas and big PAYMENTS.

That'll make you count the threads on either side of the tensioner!

Does anybody out there have any actual experience owning/using the Jinma TC24 small round baler? Is it well built? Is it reliable? I haven't been able to find any user discussions about the TC24.

Hi, guys i just wanted to tell you all what my expeierences are with compact tractors and hay. I have used my Mf 1540 4wd with 1525 loader and R-4 tires the rears are the oversized tire and they are loaded somewhere between 800-1200 lbs in fluid. I have a MF 12 square baler with bale thrower attachment i used this baler on this tractor on a field with a hillside i didn't have any problem the process was slower than with a big tractor but it handled it fine. It didn't toss the tractor as much as it toss my big tractor but the reason for that is the the mf has a bolt to tighten the drawbar up from being loose. I have also used a NH 845 chain round baler on this tractor in the same field and it run it just as easy the square baler if not easier, again the process was slower than a bigger tractor but done the job. This is just my expierence, but i would not want to do any more than just a few acres like that though, to slow

Not to beat an aging post to death but I needed an excuse to hit the 500th post. Woo hoo!

I recently purchased a sickle bar mower from a farmer who was using a 33 HP New Holland (gear drive) to run a John Deere 24T hay baler.

He said he never had a problem using his compact to run this particular baler and his land has plenty of hills. He said it worked like a charm.

Looking for a sickle mower and a baler that can be used with a Massey GC2300 compact tractor

I have a grey market takakita baler. Its a mini round baler I pull with my 30 hp yanmar Stinks using the pto with out a 2 stage or being independent. I love running it on dads I 3040 LS with a live pto works wonders. No adjusting or knotters to deal with no timing junk either. And no jerky jerky. Its 3 point mounted and all the hydraulics are self contained in the baler.

What kind of bales?

I think that tractor is very small, and ground clearance will be an issue.

i would recommend you get a utility tractor.i have a small mf sickle mower and a mf 124 baler. which i pulled with a mf 150.at 45 pto horsepower it handles it real well.but i would not want anything smaller.if your tractor is even large enough to run the hay equipment ,you are to run into a safety problem with that small of tractor.2 problems i see is not having enough weight to stop the baler going down a hill and rolling it over cutting with a sickle mower.good luck

Small square bales

A small square baler will shake that tractor apart. There is a lot of force put on a tractor each time the plunger changes direction. As pointed out also you won't be able to stop very well.

Gee, I just put 500 up in the past 2 days with my little 35 hp CUT. What did I do wrong? My rig doesn't shake because its not "the heavy plunger" that would make it sake. (Last year's picture).

Im with you there. Our 28 and 34HP geared Kubotas do fine. Even Mighty Mouse can handle it. However, altho the plunger surge wasnt in the least unpleasant on that one either, I believe it caused the HST to hit relief with every stroke in a heavy windrow. 8mo later I had transmission trouble - a broken cradle bearing FWIW. :confused3: Based on the failure I would be leary of using as small an HST tractor as I would a gear.

contractor baled some hay for us with a 160 hp Ursus last week... In previous years we also had them bale with a Deutz D40, his wife's 35 year old horse chores tractor, when no other machine was available to bale.. In his fleet of Zetor, Ursus and Case Magnums he usually keeps one 80 hp Belarus for baling, it is only used for light jobs like baling and corn planting, but it has the flywheel mass to keep the baler going.

regarding these old tractors, It's the flywheel mass that did the trick, the 2 and 3 cylinder machines ran slower revs so they required a heavier flywheel.

I also have a 80hp Belarus I keep around to do all the chores I dont wonna scratch or dent the kubotas up,and the power down 3pt u can dig a hole anywhere or brake an auger.Tough tractors weak frontends, strong hyd.1992 model 642 hrs, dont anyone wonna spend to much time on it,its named (the piece). Never has had any problems, just dont look so pretty

Your tractor is twice the tractor a GC2300 is. It is a sub-compact tractor and very similar to a Kubota BX2300. There is a lot more to a tractor than just HP, weight and driveline strength are part of it. I too have baled with tractors as small as 35 HP, but never would I use a Sub-compact.
