Small trailer - Does it need license?

I bought a home made trailer (old camper frame with new plywood deck, lights, etc.) from a friend who built it. He got it inspected, numbered and plated. Costs me about $50 every two years for tags, but insurance is carried by whatever vehicle that is towing it. No inspections until the next buyer gets it. This is Maryland.

I love Canada :) Up here, you don't need a yearly inspection unless your total weight (tow rig and loaded trailer) exceeds 10,000lbs. Only have to plate and pay for your trailer once. Our boat trailer was registered in '92 and was never inspected or anything :p It's handy because I can trailer my 3600lb MF-50 behind a 1500 Series Chevy on a tandem axle trailer, and it doesn't cost any more per year for the licensing on that setup than it does to put my 400lb ATV on a 4x8' utility trailer behind our minivan :)

Yeah, but when someone steals it, all you can do is run after them yelling "That's my trailer, eh!"
