Smaller metal cutting bandsaw thoughts?

Reading that, I envisioned five horses going in circles outside with drivetrain of belts and pulleys. Thought, that's a bit overkill, no?

I got my 120 Volt Stihl chain saw at an Estate Auction for twenty bucks Canadian. Have not used it in three (at least) years I think.

Don't see them come up on CL or FB often. I picked up this 7x12 Clarke a while back for $300.

Thats me too. Chineseum Clarke... I've cut literally tons (and I mean TONS) 0f structural shapes and stainless rod on mine. Lost the cheapo Chinese rice paper insulated motor pretty quick, it stunk the shop up, replaced it with a Marathon and the pivot axle the the head swings on, had to machine a new one of those and finally roller bearings in the upper bandwheel but over all, it's a solid saw. I use either Lennox or Starrett pre welded bandsaw blades, varible pitch bi-metal.

I used to have a couple of import horizontal 7x12 bandsaws that I used for twenty years.

I sold them after I finished refurbishing this swivel head Ellis.

I doubt I’ve used my bandsaw more than a couple of times since I bought my Makita dry cut saw

I've had a HF 4x6 bandsaw (green) for around 12 years. The saw it's self worked great out of the box, but the motor was weak. I finally smoked it when I left it unattended in a cut and the blade hung. I replaced it with a motor with a thermal overload shut off. If I was starting over, I'd look for one with thermal overload protector to begin with.

I was checking out the craigslit and someone at least within driving distance had a Ramco 8x13. Bigger than what I was going for, but I see your point. 1200 OBO

Ramco was a generic brand often sold off of the back of trucks by rather unscrupulous individuals. They are more bandsaw shaped objects than a real saw. With a lot of work, you can make them work sort of ok, but you are much better off starting with a better saw.
