for everything I might ever want to do on my seven flattish acres?

I'd be interested to know what you think - seen a few threads from people who wished they'd bought bigger...

On the other hand some of my land is a little fiddly with trees etc so I don't want too large a chassis - although of course I want loads of power

So the question is - what's the right point - what's the smallest Kub with definitely enough power to do everything someone with seven fairly flat acres might ever want to do??

Cheers Mike

Mike -- The answers you get might vary widely unless you give us a better feel for what you intend to do on those seven acres...

well to start with just cutting, hedgecutting - maybe some haymaking

but I have read that once you get the machine, you think of all kinds of other things you want to do - fencing, trench digging etc etc

I don't mind if some jobs take longer than they would with a bigger machine - I just want to have enough power to actually do anything I might want to do - digging/cutting/moving pulling stumps out etc etc

Not many rocks around so moving really heavy rocks isn't a job I will need to do (I think!)

Mike,
Most any of the "B" series tractors will do most of what you want to do and in my opinion none of them will do all that you mentioned. The three things I don't think you will do with a small tractor are hay work, stump pulling and hedgecutting. Haying requires a big machine if you are going to run a baler. You could cut with a small sickle mower and rake but baling is a big tractor job. Pulling stumps is also a big tractor job if you are talking a stump of any size. Now hedgecutting I am not sure what you have in mind. If you are thinking a boom mower like the road crews use, big tractors job.

The most power in a smaller frame will be the B7800 and the B2910. Both would handle 5' mowers, post hole augers for fencing and backhoes for trenching. With a backhoe you will not need to pull stump, you can dig them. Make sure you get a Front End Loader (FEL), best attachment you can invest in.

Mike -

I see that you've been visiting each different manufacturer forum asking the same question. That's O.K., but it's just a bit cumbersome. Besides, when you ask your type of question in the Orange , Green , or Blue forums, you just might get a slightly prejudiced answer for that particular color.

Your basic questions has been asked countless times. If you do a search , you'll find almost everything you're looking to find out. Then, once you have a feel for the brand(s) of machines you're interested in, you could come back to the forums and ask specific questions of those people that own the types you're looking at. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Just a suggestion to make it a little easier for you. Have fun! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Garry

I only asked on the red and green boards - I did post about the price of a specific model a dealer offer me on the blue board though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At the moment I am most keen on red and green..

What I am trying to get to is the most suitable red and the most suitable green (and perhaps blue)

Then, once I am happy I've got the best alternatives, I can work up the pricing and figure out which to get - although as you know, at that point the whole process usually starts over!!!

appreciate the post though, I have done a fair bit of digging in the archives - and I'll certainly keep looking

Anyone have a view on the best red package for me don't hesitate to post

cheers Mike

O.K. Mike! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I didn't realize that you really did have a plan ! It just seemed that you were kind of bouncing around, which happens a lot here - even with some "veteran" members! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

mike: welcome aboard. but where aare these seven flat acres? do u need to move snow? what kind of digging? get my drift? i have 9 acres and have a b2400, for me it is fine. moves tons of snow. cuts fields, moves dirt , does some digging and helps with all kinds of odd jobs. PULLING stumps is not one of its better features, not for the kind of trees and root systems i have here. have pulled some small stumps and removed a few good sized rocks. but for 7 acres i don't think u need to go out of the b series in kubota, or the tc series in N/H. and to cover them all the jd 790. but u know best your needs. GOOD LUCK

"Enough power for everything I might ever want to do on my seven flattish acres?"

That is an impossible question that has no answer---ever is as in "ever want" is undefineable. You might choose to build a lake or a skyscraper for all I know. How can anyone but you know what you might "ever" do?
Good luck, hope you find whatever will do what you ever wish to do. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif J
