Smallest tractor with locking front diff?

The Deutz is under 48" wide without the bucket. It is a very compact and heavily built unit. For reference, if you were to stand beside the unit in the trader add, the seat height would be at your hip.

The current model is the agrokid 30.

You are probably correct.

But if you compare that to a skidsteer, that has the ability to do a 360 degree turn in it's own tracks,(which is needed more often than not on small properties)and has all the Q/A attachments available for almost any task needed for landscaping. It's easy to see that a skidsteer is much more machine with more capabilities for landscaping small properties in a 'suburban' setting.

Yeah I agree. But back to the original OPs question, he's looking for a tractor with a front locker.

Heck I didn't even know one existed!!! I knew there were some bigger CUTs that had limit slip front axles but didn't know of any lockers.

Neither did I, it is interesting to see what else is available out there.

Thanks for the replies but I really was trying to avoid getting advice, just really wanted info. Skid steers do a tremendous amount of damage to turf as do tracked hoes. The benefit of the locker is increased traction in unfinished areas where I don't mind damage and being very gentle on turf. There are several examples of landscpapers actually going away from their skid steers for these exact reasons and going to CUTs. Plus CUTs are overall more versatile and have a larger resale market.

So thanks for the advice, but I was really hoping to keep this thread on topic.

Some of the Kubota's M6800's came in an orchard/municpal sidewalk clearing version. Not a CUT but has a front lockers.

Landini Rex narrow models have front lockers but get up to about 100 hp, not a cut.

I know you don't want it, but in my experience, CUT's don't have large enough front tires for the diff lock to help. My L5030's front end will sink to china before having a problem with spinning. I operate in really wet areas and even just the rear diff lock only get used in the winter. My MF5455 (100 hp) has front and rear lockers and it makes a huge difference as the big tires will get me far enough into wet stuff that wheel spin will break through the surface.

Photo is the L5030 cutting though some wet sod in a field backing up from where it got stuck. Notice the tracks of the 5455 in the grass next to the kubota's tires.

Weesa20, have you looked into the articulated CUT's mentioned in my earlier post? That equipment is designed just for such situations and has a following among professional landscapers for just the reasons you mention. Can't say if that equipment has a locking front diff, but the articulated design, equal size tires and weight transfer system should achieve the same effect... putting more traction to the ground without tearing everything up.

One example: Ventrac Compact Tractors & Attachments and there are other similar products also.

They are kind of pricey, I think, and do not use a conventional 3 point system for implements. But they work very well in certain applications, including commercial landscaping.
