I made a mistake. I put too many 0's it's 2000 gallons not 20,000 gallons. I didn't think 20,000 sounded correct

um, correction-large water trough!

Try honking the horn.

I have honked the horn and it indeed gets the gate opened quicker.

But there is a cost...

My arm can be ache a bit after the Gate Operator returns to the vehicle. ;):laughing::laughing:

Sore arm from opening the gate or from gate opener charges.

Smart meters are made with all of the mentioned technologies: Sending data over the power lines, RF transmitter to local receivers on poles, or perhaps in a truck or car, and RF which transmits from house to house and finally to a receiver (called mesh network) The choice depends on the power company and is based on the user density, distances of lines and the infrastructure that the power company decides to install.

We have had smart meters for a number of years in eastern PA without controversy or problems. I can go on line and see my power usage on an hourly basis.

In Texas, there were a number of complaints by people who claimed the new smart meters were showing they were using a lot more electricity; huge bills and such. The only thing I read from investigations was that in some cases the individual who changed the meters out misread the old meter.

Anyway, a pleasant young fellow showed up here on June 2 of this year, rang the doorbell, told me he was here to change out the meter. I don't think he had our power off more than a couple of minutes and he was gone. But I had already started a spreadsheet comparing our electricty usage this year to last year. We had a 5 year contract that expired last year and I got a new one year contract at a slightly lower rate; about 2 cents per KwH less. But the bottom line for us is that we used less electricity every month of this year, compared to last year, except May and November. For the year, we used 1,874 fewer KwH and our total electric bill for the year was $572.67 less than last year.

So, yep, Paul, I guess you and I have the same system. I don't bother to go online to see my hourly usage, but can do that, and I get a weekly e-mail showing our usuage for the past week, the cost, and the estimated amount of the next monthly bill. I'm not concerned about big brother watching; hope he enjoys it, if he's watching.

I have 10 KW of solar, so it is interesting for me to see my usage, and also on sunny days to see that they are taking power from me. Unfortunately this month has been a bit of a bust in the northeast, lots of gray days, and only a few with nice sun.

Well, you've sure got me beat there, Paul. I don't have any solar, wind generator, or any source of power except the power company, and we have a total electric home, although a very small one, but it is pretty well insulated. So I still paid the power company $1,832.72 this year. And it was worth every penny, too.
