Grsthegreat - the rain missed us also. Yesterday afternoon - a few drops were seen on the little lake. Not enough to even wet the leaves out on the lawn. We are supposedly getting more today. But - more what??? Just more hope.....??
However - the cooler weather and raised humidity has helped contain the brush fires. Strangely - small ones are popping up everywhere. Three miles north of me - right along the county road. Burned an acre or so. At a lake about five miles east of me - again a couple acres.
The fire fighters are being stretched beyond belief. All this small crap and they are still working on the big one - the Gray Road fire.
Some rain would be a real relief.

Yesterday I had to take Brownie in for his summer haircut. All of a sudden - it became immediately clear how all these fires were really affecting us here.
Went five miles north on the county road. It's closed due to fire and fire vehicles. I turned around and took the only other route to get to Cheney. Twenty five miles extra for a normal ten mile trip.
I-90 is closed - in both directions - diverted onto 904 and thru Cheney to get around the Gray Rd fire. Both of our local, county roads were closed.
When I got into Cheney - what a MESS. ALL of the I-90 traffic was being diverted onto highway 904 and right thru Cheney. There were semi trucks backed up - in both directions - as far as the eye could see.
By the time I picked Brownie up from his haircut - the small county roads were back open. All the I-90 traffic was still diverted thru Cheney though.
This I-90 diversion could go on for quite a while. At least until they get a handle on the Gray Rd fire.

The smoke came down here last night; the fires in Oregon and Northern California move offshore there and then move along the coast before coming in here. Last night the AQIs were from 70-150 in the area. Yuck.
A large area of North America has air quality issues at the moment;
I think that it is going to take years to sort how to care for our forests. One of the things that has become clear is that controlled burns to lighten the fuel load in the understory leads to much lower intensity, less risky and more manageable fires. Getting there involves changing a hundred or so years of forestry practices here.
In the interim, I'm glad that we have a whole house electronic precipitator. It isn't perfect, but it does clean up the particles pretty effectively.
BTW, a P100 respiratory is about ten tIke's more effective than an N95 mask, and a powered respirator is 1,000 or so times better. (Of course a powered respirator is close to 1,000 times more expensive, too.)

The smoke plumes are satellite based, I think so there is sometimes a plume "in the area" but it is a couple thousand feet up.
PurpleAir also runs many of the same data, but no smoke plumes;

AQI here of 160+ this morning with visibility of less than a mile. Ick!
So much for outdoor projects today, or tomorrow. Given the huge number of acres burning in Northern California and Oregon, and the low containment levels, I expect this to continue for weeks.

I have been wondering how you have been, there have been fires close by on all sides of you. Glad to see you are OK! Hopefully the seemingly now annual fire season is over.
