Snake season again

Wisconsin protects the Massagua (spelling???) rattler. Fortunately their territory is west of my place. No poisonous snakes in our area.

You live in one, The Timber also known as a Canebrake but a little lighter in color is on the threatened list.
I have seen two Canebrakes in my area both after a car hit them, both in a four year period and within a half mile of each other.
There are several other non-posionious snakes and other species on the threatened list also the famous Texas Horned Toad due to fireants eating/killing their food supply (redants).

Good snake. They think Rattles are a dinner bell. They are imune to rattler venom.

O.K. Is that the real size of that rattle snake or is it a photo shop picture? Either way it gives me the heebie jeebies !!!!!

This timber rattler became endangered when it crawled out of the woods and into my path! It was 55 inches long!!

Here is a snake my cow dogs (austrialian cattle dogs, or, heelers) decided they needed to take care of. Its about 3-4' long. Any guesses on what kind of snake it is?

Looks like a Great Plains Rat snake or as I called it years ago, "mud snake." I have one that lives in my barn. I leave him alone b/c he definitely does his job with the mice and such. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Diamondback Watersnake. He probably smells a little, and they have a bad temper.

I just relocated a copperhead friday from one of my wheels on my fifthwheel, no use in killing a good mouser.

A diamondback watersnake is what my Ag Ex. Agent says it was too. He said they were non-posionous, but have quite alot of bacteria in its mouth so if my dogs had been bit a nasty infection would likely develop. Luckly no bites to the dogs. I typically relocate any snakes on my property because they help control the rodent population, however it is good to know that my boy can walk around with the dogs and be somewhat "safe" from snakes. So far in the past 5-6 years, these dogs have taken care of at least 4 copperheads, 2 cottonmouths, 3 king snakes, several small snakes and now one diamondback watersnake.
