Several, all used and abused.
Last night, just after it got dark out, Steph and her Mom were driving up our gravel driveway when they saw a snake.

As they aproached in in her Moms car, it coiled up at them. Her Mom freaked and hit the gas pedal, runnig it over. Than she put the car in revers and did it again and again.

Her Mom is a very nice lady who always dresses perfectly, teaches piano to kids and is the music director at church. But when she saw the snake, she totally changed!!!

I went back to see what it was and finish it off with a shovel.

This is the first one of the year for us, so it's now open season.

They are crawling here in Southern Missouri too. I was mowing my lawn yesterday and saw one slithering through the grass trying to get away. Now most of the time I run over them with the mower. Have done several copperheads this way. But when it got to where I could get a good look at him, saw it was a Black Snake. Generally I leave those alone, unless they are threating.

Eddie, I'm surprised you haven't killed all the snakes around you by now. I thought you were afraid of those crawly little creatures?

eddie that is a nice looking snake - the tire tracks of corse /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif too bad it got the shovell treatment. is that a copper head? ohio don't have to many snakes anymore too many old ladies in cars I guess /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif we do however have an overabundance of moles, mice, and every other type of desise carrying rodent. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Interesting timing, Eddie. I haven't seen a snake around here in town, but this evening our little Chihuahua came to the back door with something in her mouth and it was a tiny snake. It had been dead long enough it was dried and shriveled, not much bigger in diameter than a matchstick and no longer than a pencil. I guess summer's here.

Eddie, you right they are out! I was just thinking of you and snakes yesterday when I killed a copperhead behind my barn. I sure hate killing snakes but the copperhead is a snake with an attitude and a limb amputating bite. (because of the poison) Mine was about 2' how long was that big one of yours?

Hi Don,

Congrats on killing your snake too!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

His back half was a little ground up from Steph's Mom's driving. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif But at the time, I thought it was 2 1/2 feet.

From what little I know about them, that's about as big as they get. I killed one last year with the dozer that was about half the size of this one, and one the year before that on a house I was rebuilding that was half the size of that one.

If I stay true to form, next year I'll have to deal with a five footer!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They are out here also. Got this one Saturday morning. It was watching the kid's play basketball when I spotted him in our yard.
Just got another one when I was weed eating this morning. It was not near as big as this one. The rest of the time I was weed eating I think I jumped everytime I saw a stick.

I was under the house working on insulation and bumped into 2 of those. I killed one but was able to relocate the other. I'd rather have them than the mice, poison and all.

If I see anymore do you want me to catch them and you can come get them?
You are welcome to relocate all I have to your house. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All we have are these little garter snakes the size of a pepperoni stick. No teeth, they just stink on you if you catch them. You can keep those mean looking ones.

With the weather warming up I've been on the lookout for the rattlers on my property. So far I have not seen one yet...but I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before they pop up all over the place. While boxblading an area in front of the future homesite, I uncovered a beautiful black and yellow California King Snake. They are very welcome snakes because the not only help keep the rodent population down, but the larger ones also kill and eat other snakes (like rattlers) They're immune to the poison. So they are my buddies up here.

I posted this picture before, but it amazes me everytime I look at it. It was sent to me via email and I think this snake came from the SouthWest somewhere...maybe Texas? How would you like to run across THIS one? (Not me in the picture)

HOLY CRAP !! That is a HUGE Rattler. That is the size of snake that I have nightmares about !!!

We have Timber Rattlers around here but nothing near that size. Not to mention it is very stiff fine if you kill one. So the 3 "S"s apply when you see one.

Shoot
Shovel
Shut up

YEAH, even though it's a phoney picture, it still gives me the willies when I see it!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Why did you post that picture when your post talkes about nice snakes. I wanted to see what a good one looked like, not one that gives me nightmares!!!

As scared of snakes as I am I would not do anything outside if I had to worry about rattlers, copperheads, and cottonmouths. I have heard that their is cottonmouths on our nearby lake but I have yet to see one thats why I still go back. We have black snakes that get pretty big and thats bad enough.

I did the same thing, I wanted to see the picture of a good snake and see a giant rattle snake photo.
I also didn't realize there were some states that protected rattlesnakes.
