Is there such a thing as snow snakes.

Our snakes ( and I assume all snakes) are cold blooded and need warmth from sun etc. to keep going. Hence in winter ours hibernate and in summer are out and about. Often laying on roads or on my tiles around the pool (OK only 1 so far).

Snow Snakes - Hmmm - Dunno about that one.

Me thinks you yanks are yanking my leg /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

I think a snow snake would look like a stick!! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Of course, the snake would be frozen solid and resemble a stick.

Neil,

Snow snakes are seen on weekends and usually only in the wee early hours of the morning in the alleys behind the local Pubs, where they lurk awaiting prey. Their primary food source is the Jackalope and they are such efficient predators that the poor little Jackalopes are nearly extinct. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif About the only thing that will challenge a snow snake is the dreaded bigfoot. But they're only found in California, so we have to deal with our snakes ourselves. Usually by running. I once came across a snow snake in the daylight that was lying on its back and being circled by buzzards. When I approached, the snake slowly opened one eye, pointed with its tail to the buzzards and went "shhhhh". /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Yanking your leg? Naw, we wouldn't do that /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

So those snow snakes must be like the drop bears we have over here.

We aussies are not their main food source, but gee they love to drop in on the unsuspecting tourist or 2.

I ssssssssuppose your sssssnow ssssnakes have really thick fur to inssssulate them from the cold?

When they sssshed their sssskin those fur ssssskins would make good willy warmers /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Neil,

Thirty years ago, people used to run around with bumper stickers saying "beware the snow snakes." Haven't seen too many of them lately though. You can still find stuffed Jackalopes in a lot of the sport shops. Those and bob-catfish.

We don't have drop bears. We got gummy bears. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Gee, I'd better find my shovel, it's getting kinda deep. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well that's the problem, everyone knows you have to get a grocery papersack and afterdark you go out in the field and walk around hitting the sack with a stick while you holler snipe, snipe, snipe... LOL/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Of course maybe that only works for the Texas Snipe. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You're right, that probably only applies to the Texas Snipe. Up here, the snipe are all in the trees because of the snow snakes. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
