Interested in outcome... Was thinking of getting DeWalt as all my battery tools are DeWalt... And now DeWalt has adapter to use the 20 volt Lithium in 18 volt line of tools...

https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCA1820-Dewalt-Battery-Adapter/dp/B016K1UD0E.............................

Ill post the results when it happens.

I have that adapter because there are a few 18V tools I kept. It does work with many of the tools, but not all. I traded in or gave away most of the 18V stuff and replaced it with 20V. For example, the adapter will work in the 18V circular saw but you can't cut to the full depth because the now-extended battery bumps the work.

Many of the 20V tools are now the brushless and the run time is a lot better than the 18V versions. The L-ion batteries don't discharge between projects like the NiCad batteries did. The best tool to come along in years is the 1/4" impact. I added a keyless chuck and unless I have serious hole poking to do it isn't often I reach for a "real" drill.

I've been very pleased with anything I have gotten or used from Irwin, I believe they bought out Vise Grip as well. Their 9 in one screwdriver is awesome, the ratcheting adjustment "channel lock" type pliers are great as well.

I've been meaning to get some Knipex pliers as they are really worth it, their dikes or side cutters with the long handles I've used that were other peoples were pretty sweet and they abused them...

I’ve cut screws without damage to the teeth with my Knipex side cutters. Try that with a pair of Channellock cutters. I got a Channellock socket set last year for Christmas and the quality of it was good but their new pliers and cutters are garbage.

Klein,SK Tools and ChannelLock for me. I have both Klein and SK screwdrivers. I use Klein for electrical tools. I use SK wrenches and sockets. I use ChannelLock for slip joint pliers.

My opinion is that Snap On is mainly a status thing.
That plus they drive up to your shop or garage and save U a trip.
Sure they are good but many other brands are equal in quality usually at better pricing.
Sears generally had a decent selection as do Canadian Tire in Canada.
As to guarantee's well any tool that I broke was due to my abuse anyway.

Some brands that stand out are: Proto, Challenger, Hildebrand,

As U get ahead you can actually 'ring' the tool and the sound tells U the quality.
A heavy clunky sound is a bad sign while a clear 'ring' indicates better quality.

Battery tools - I'm heavy into DeWalt and the 20V Max platform in particular. They work very well and I can get them heavily discounted through our company. My DCF899 1/2" impact is at work right now waiting for our equipment mechanic (a vendor) to come and work on our Gradall telehandler. It involves removing a wheel, and they want to do a head to head between my DeWalt and their Milwaukee on the lug nuts.

Interested in this as well.

But results you see can be VERY misleading. Milwaukee has several different 1/2" impacts. In the M18 Fuel lineup they have a compact at 220ft-lbs weighing 2.5lbs, and mid-torque 600ft-lbs and 3.8lbs, and a beast high torque one, 1400ft-lbs and 5.9lbs. I am sure dewalt has similar selections of size/weight and torque. Obviously it wouldnt be a fair comparison to compare a compact dewalt to the high torque milwaukee, of vice versa.

I like the milwaukee because I think their battery technology is second to none. And because the selection of tools that all take the same M18 battery is unrivaled.

Friend has a Milwaukee "Fuel" battery impact, its a monster, but expensive...

Also noticed in many "car" build shows on TV guys are using the 1/4 inch hex impact for lighter work.... Was surprised when my small DeWalt impact (1/4 inch) drove a 1/2 X 5 inch lag screw into wood (with pilot hole of course)...

Think this socket driver is only tool Harbor Freight made that impressed me...

3 Piece Hex Shank Socket Driver Set

Dale

I use my 1/4" hex with the socket adapters a ton when working under the hood on something. Light, maneuverable and powerful. I think the days of needing a big shop compressor for air impacts and air ratchets are coming to an end

I was a. craftsman fan for a very long time ... then all my tools were stolen by some doped up junkie and probably sold got a heroin fix... I had to replace virtually 20+ years of tool collecting. My local Sears was one of the early ones to close so I started collecting Husky and some Kobalt staples in the tool box. Wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers etc. I like Husky a bit better overall than the Kobalt , but for the more involved tools, I bought Snap On and Mac. ..the ratchets from Snap On are silky smooth and the impact sockets seem to fit better on the impact gun..( Mac ) alsobought the Snap On 1/4,1/2 and 3/4" torque wrenches over the boxstore ones.. the SO guy has a never used.. "used" set on the truck that was basicy1/2 price of new so. I took it. The last thing that I certainly found better from SO is their 1/4,3/8,1/2" swivels.. every 1/4,3/8" I have ever has from the box stores breaks very quickly if used hard. ..I went to a SO impact set of swivels and so far no problems.

This video just came up on my suggestions.

I have had a complete set of Craftsman screwdrivers for 43 years now. Never had to exchange one. I did get to try the square handled Snap-On screwdrivers on the Snap-On truck. They give you a much better grip and torque that you can generate.
I did have to recently replace my Craftsman ratchet. I closed my eyes and bought a Snap-On. Yes, it was way over priced, but it will be the last one I every buy and the function and quality of it is out of this world.
I have a 40+ year old pair of Klein linesman pliers that have performed perfectly.
The best value that I've found on impact sockets are from Harbor Freight. I can't seem to break them.
I also have had great luck with Milwaukee M18 cordless tools. The 1/2" High Torque Impact wrench has over 1250 ft lbs of torque! It is way beyond any air wrench that I've ever seen.
