Picked up an old 72" v-type pull behind a couple months ago and looks like the one rbargeron had. the name plate reads "Snow Machine Industries" from South Dakota. I picked up some #2 3"x1/2" nut and bolts to use as a shear pin to replace a full pin that was being used. To the OP, do you recall what you used? I am using it on a J/D 990 with a 35 hp Rated pto. Local J/D dealer cannot tell me what is needed to protect my tractor if I pick up a rock or something. I was thinking maybe use a slip clutch set up.
Just seeing this now - I likely use 1/2" grade 2. My old Snow Machines pull-type is still blowing snow - now behind a Mahindra in Pittsfield.

That's good to hear, looking forward to using it. Thanks.

Nice, I have the same one that I picked up for 250 bucks 6 years ago and it works great behind my L3540 with just under 30 HP at the pto. With the HST sometimes I have to go slow, but it works for up to 18” or so. It used to be blue, but got some orange paint.

Yup that's what I have. Are you using a specific shear bolt or a low grade bolt?

Just a grade 2 bolt. So far (knocking on wood) I have yet to need it for this blower.

My evolution:

Me and a shovel.

Wife and a shovel.

Pickup and a plow.

Pickup and a plow plus an 8 hp walk behind snowblower

F450 and a plow, plus the pickup and walk behind.

Add a wheeled skid steer

Add a 40 hp tractor with cab and front mount blower.

Add a tracked skid steer.

Keep them all in the shop and garage, and buy a winter house in Tucson.

72 degrees here today.

My evolution of snow removal in Vermont.
First was a ford 2110 4x4 with bucket, slow. Then added a fisher plow on the bucket. sold it.
Bought a John Deere 5520 no cab.
Met my now wife who had a 30 hp Kubota and a snow machines pull behind snowblower(fitter1 now owns it)
I sold the 5520 and bought a 5105m cabbed tractor and borrowed my neighbors Fransgard v pull behind blower.
I found one exactly like his on Craigslist and bought it.
I now have a Normand n92inv along with my 5105m. My neighbor blew up his blower and purchased mine, which worked out for both of us.
This set up works the best for my situation and I’m sure will last my entire lifetime.

On blowers where the auger chain is exposed and runs in snow: Is this a problem. Do you have to oil the chain after every use? Grease?
I'll spray my snow blower chain every now and than (no set schedule), never had one freeze up or other failure in the years (8 in Vermont alone) I've been using snow blowers.
One thing I do every time is spray the inside of the chute, auger (and housing) and fan (and housing) with a non-stick spray such as PAM. This applies to both the tractor mounted blower and the walk-behind I use on the walks
Frozen snow and ice is no fun to chip out

My Kubota blower L2195A calls for chainsaw chain oil (sticky) every 4 hours. I also put some moly grease on some of the visible teeth on the sprocket.
