lumber and some tin. What you are going to need will depend on what type of building you'll put up. Is it going to be on a slab, cinder blocks, pole barn etc... Give us more of an idea as to what you're wanting to build?

I tried to find you some free plans with a google search, there were dozens of sites that claimed to have free plans but they all where trying to sell something ? Even the state farm programs, maybe someone can link to free farm building plans?

Good luck, JB.

pole barn or something like the Amish bard you see on the side of the road for sale.i dont think a slab would work out .i stop to look at a prefab one that sit on 4x4 . 12x20 would be 3500.00

Okay :) if it is just going to be a simple pole barn you won't need a lot. You can build this with 4x4's 2x4's and some well built trusses{you can have them dilivered or build them yourself} and tin/shingles etc for the roof.
What type of sides/siding are you planing on? Are there any small saw mills near by? If so find out what they're charging per board foot? 3500.00 for a 12x20 comes out to be 14.60 per sq ft. I personally like tin more then shingle, for many different reasons. So you need to figure what you want as far as materials, comforts, needs, etc. One other thing what part of the country are you in?

im in delaware county New York. i was thinking of metal roofing with pine board and batten (thats what my house has ) .what i was thinking was 4 inches crusher run with pressure treated 4x4 spacing 3 ft apart .the pressure treated 2x4 spaced 12inches apart with tounge and grove 5/8 flooring.for the walls maybe 4x4 suports with 4ft spaceing??i have to run 2x6 ver. so i can nail the board and batten??3 rows of 2x6?? 2x4 roof rafter ??i guess plywood with metal roofing ??

I had the same thing happen last winter to a 10 x 20 tarp style carport. I bought two and had them anchored down and connected end to end making it 10 x 40. One of them collapsed on top of one of my classic cars during a 2' snowfall 2 days before Christmas last year. The second one collapsed last week after 3 days of heavy wet snow. Fortunately there was nothing in it this time. I've since fixed and repainted the car and built a 16' x 32' pole barn addition onto the back of my existing garage. I used 6 x 6 pressure treated posts on 8' centers. I used metal siding and roofing. Then had the floor poured. When that was set up enough to work in I insulated the side walls and ceiling, installed outlets and wiring for lighting and put 7/16". sheathing on the inside. Here's a few pics.

I think you could really benefit from finding a building similar to what you want, that is already built. Look it over carefully to see what materials were used and where and how. Do you have a neighbor or someone you work with who has a similar building to look at maybe?
Dave.
