Towns hire private contractors to supplement their plowing functions. Some have some pretty big contracts.
Also, the small private plow contractors can make a lot of money on shopping center and business parking lots.
I just don't believe a snow plow truck would work here. I don't see any shopping centers (here)paying to have their lots cleared as, no one would be or could be out shopping in this mess anyway. Ya'lls snow (I believe) is a lot different than what we get. Our snow quickly turns to a sheet of ice on the roads and unless you have something special, it's just very difficult to drive on the roads. If you don't try to get where you need to be when this stuff hits, it's very difficult to try to get to where you need to be. As I stated in a previous post. I got stuck on a job I was trying to wrap up and just got caught. From where I was to get home on a normal day would have taken 30-35 min. Because I got caught with my pants down , It took me about 4 hrs to get home. Glad we only get this stuff every few yrs, instead of every yr
