alright, I'll fess up ... I left the cold air fence gate open and forgot to close it after snowmobiling. So all the cold air escaped and headed south.. I'm sorry ... I closed it this morning and it should get warmer for you real soon.

I doubt if many southern folks realize how much work and expense goes into winter climates.

Our town budget, for example, winter road maintenance is a big item. Then the summer road maintenance needed because winter busted up the roads is big too. Roads are our largest expense after schools. Property, fuel excise, and state income tax has to pay for it somehow.

Yup. The snow removal budget is one of the largest expenses here by far.

Even worse in Montreal, where there is NO private off street parking, so they have an army of hired tow trucks that shuffle peoples cars around so that the streets can get cleared. You can wake up to no car, and have to walk around several blocks to find it.

A lot of us in the north country get worn out by winters and end up moving south or snowbirding. Because we can't take the hot summers either.

O' yes, the old heat with 90% + humidity. I can't wait :thumbsup:

Well, i decided to get off my lazy good for nothing butt and go blow some snow. i measured 5" on the front steps.

The snow had stopped, but there predicting more overnight.

Two hours later theres another 2" on the ground.

Wonder what tomorrow will bring

yeiks..thats going to be a mess.

i much prefer when it slowly thaws

we used to get winters where it would start snowing in November and hang around till March. I wzas able to have sleigh rides all winter long. Last year and so far this year i cant even get the sleigh out of the shed.

We had 8-10" of new snow today....cant tell exactly due to wind. Spent a lovely 2-1/2 hours blowing the stuff after working an 8 hour day.

Personally I don't care what i paid for the tractor and blower....it was worth it. I stayed dry in the wind and snow, and worked in a t-shirt. Cant be beat.

I wont even think of plowing/blowing snow till we get near 6" on the ground.

Most times if there predicting very heavy snowfall we plow after every 4-6" lift of snow.....either before the school bus arrives or before evening commute. I got up this morning and theres 3" on the ground and its still falling...but its not worth the effort to plow yet.

Personally, i love snow. I like the quiet and peaceful nature of the stuff. I love being able to hook up the horses to my sleighs and going for a drive. This year its been a real disappointment ...so little snow. The mountain ski resorts are having a crappy season. theres not enough snow pack to refill our lakes after the drawdown. It really sucks.

Last I heard around here, and this was a while back, is if you have a contract the plow guy can show up every 3" and be paid every time. Of course that depends upon the contract but I was led to believe the 3" number was pretty typical.

I like it too (usually) and we are having a bumper crop this year!!!
