Snow moving. Not as easy as I thought

Depends on how wide the drive is. Mine is 10' wide so going down one side and back on the other I don't affect the crown
Yeah, mine is 12' so I do the same thing because I have a crown.

Talk to the 'locals' about winter snows. They will most likely remember the worst snowfalls and that should give you a starting point.
I wouldn't invest any more money into snow removal until you have at least one winter under your belt.

My driveway also has a crown. I go out one side, then in the other and then clean up whatever is left in the middle.

I picked up some material to build a plow but With Christmas approaching I havent had the time to build it. I have however took some time to build an edge tamer for the cutting edge of my bucket. Its just a piece of 1.5 steel tube with a 3/4 strip taken out length wise that slips over the edge of the sharp cutting edge. I welded 3 tabs on it that bolt on to 3 of the bolts that hold my cutting edge on. I never would have thought that it would have worked as good as it does. Makes a world of difference. Still not as ideal as a plow because the bucket fills with snow and falls out the sides but its a lot better than without it and It scrapes right down to the harder surface leaving no loose snow. Im extremely happy to say the least. The edge of my snow blower and my plow that I am going to build will also be getting one because it works so good. Wish I could figure out how to post pictures with my iPhone because I have been doing all kinds of mods to my tractor that I would like to share.

I think I might have figured out the picture posting thing. Hopefully these show up. Here is the edge tamer. I havent got any with it installed yet cause I just painted it. I will post some up when I get it installed. If this works. Don’t know how the oil got in there

First bucket I've seen, besides mine, that has a D-ring inside. :)

I also have a chain hook on each side for picking up or carrying long objects. I picked up the idea from youtube from a fella named Paul Short.

You guys have me all worried now! LOL

We just moved this summer, we went from a 150' - 200' gravel drive, to a 1000' gravel drive with loads of parking areas.

At the old place, I would use a plow mounted on my Polaris ranger for most snowfalls up to about 10" then clean up after with a walk-behind blower. That seemed to work great, the plow blade on the ranger wouldn't dig up the gravel at all.

Here at our new place, I was planning on using the ranger with the plow blade for the first few snowfalls (and any lighter snows), then using the 64" 3pt blower behind my B2650 HSTC. I was kind of figuring the FEL would only be used for moving piles of snow around.

You all have me worried now that I'm going to need more/better equipment, and a large supply of sand/salt on hand. Thankfully the driveway is fairly level, just a very slight grade (almost unnoticeable).

We have no idea what the snows will be like here compared to our previous home, as we're in a completely different province now

Welcome to New Brunswick NB Kubota. We moved here a couple years ago and the winters can be interesting:). We live outside of Fredericton and last year we got 80cms in 24 hours. Broke some records for sure. You seem to be very well setup and lot of guys use what you have a less so I don稚 think you will have any worries.

Some snow on its way tonight so you will get to test our your setup.

^ Yes! We ended up with around 6" of brutal wet snow. Ugh

All my plans for using the plow to start the winter off went out the window. Got about 5 feet and it was so wet and heavy the blade dug in and stopped the Ranger dead in its tracks!

After reading all the horror stories about using the blower at the start of the season had me petrified, but I was out of options. It was either that, or the walk behind blower (for the 1000' driveway lol)

To my surprise, with the skids all the way down, and liftin/lowering as needed to not spray gravel everywhere, I managed to do it. No shear pins were broken either. Just took it really slow and easy.

Thanks for the welcome, this winter will definitely be a learning curve for me. No matter how long I've been on this earth, I'm still learning new stuff every day. LOL. Haven't made it to Fredericton yet, although our realtor is from there. We absolutely LOVE it here, and have not looked back even once!20171210_101659.jpg20171210_115854.jpg
