Snow Snow Plowing??

I use a 6' KK rear blade on my CK30HST here in far NW VA, also very long gravel steep driveway.

Worked great last year in up to 20" of snow.

I had good rear chains on last year but didn't really need them so I took them off. I'll put them on again if things get icy.

I use a 7' front blade on the loader of my DK 35 and a 7' blade on the rear.

Nice set up Vince. Located here in Danville, Pa. I think you get a bit more snow than we normally do here. May have to go with a similiar set up. Is your FEL blade manual or hyd. I believe I got that right?? Thank you! Pete

I had a front mount blade like Vince but I just bought a 77" back blower. Last year the drifts were 5' high in places and the front blade just didn't cut it. Each time I plowed the banks built up higher and the drifts filled in up to the top of the banks. It was taking me 4 hours to plow a 300 ft drive. The blower will avoid the buildup on the banks and keep the drifts to a minimum.

You wouldn't considering parting with the Front Mount Blade at this time??

Our Lane is over a mile consisting of plenty loose gravel, rocks, tree limbs, & branches mixed in. A blower either front or rear may not be able to cut it. Thanks for the posting.

Get a rear blower, it's some of the best money you'll spend.

Thanks for sharing your story & photos. Is that one of those new fangdangled heated cabs. Way to go. Guess I'll have to put one on the Christmas list with the rest of the stuff & not hold my breath.

The only thing I use is my FEL but have filled rear tires and chains on the front tires. Have been looking at a QA six ft front mounted blade but probably will just stick with the loader.

Thanks for your post & assistance Oleozz. Where in Pa are you located? Just got me CK25 in June also w/FEL. Have added rear chains & try to afford keeping the fuel tank full.

Hello KiotiKid:

I'm also in Pa, but the west central part. We do get sizeable snowfalls, we're high up on the alleghenies, in fact not far from me there is a sign on I-80 that states "highest point on I-80 east of the Mississippi".

Anyway, I have a rear blade that I used to pull and push the snow, depending on which way I was going, and disliked it everytime I used it. I was using a 21 HP New Holland at the time. I sold the NH and got a Kubota B3030 this year and included a front quick attach hydrolic dozer blade, and a factory cab. I believe the blowers are great, but for me I like the front blades, I like moving forward, seeing my work infront of me, and knowing where the snow is going. Years ago I had a smaller drive- way and plowed with a Toro 8hp Kohler engine with a 4 foot blade. Unbelievable but that little Toro did a remarkable job at moving the snow, many times I plowed the entire street because the township didn't come up our way all the time. I don't think I'll mind moving the snow this year in my shirt sleeves with the heater blowing hot air in the cab.:D

i've used a 5' rear blade for 4 seasons but my driveway is over 700' and on a side hill.... blade works great as far as scrapping down to the gravel but you can't push the snow back very far (unless you have some flat land around the drive) and it closes in the space quickly (2 or 3 storms)....
i've purchased a used puma 54" rear blower for this season and look forward to a much easier time all winter.... plus i still have the FEL for scrapping and moving big piles....

jimb1724 - Appreciate your post. In a way I'm hoping to also be able to use the rear blade here only. My biggest problem is that as an old gezzer I'm not much good anymore at plowing backwards. Lane is over a mile and my neck & back are shot. So I'm hoping I can plow going forward with the Kioti even if it means having to plow more trips. My Old Ford 850 was not able to handle plowing forward very well. First Winter for the Kioti coming on.

Sounds like exit 18 Clearfield exit.
I've done some snowmobiling there at Elliot state park.
