Snow removal fuel stockpile?

/ Snow removal fuel stockpile? #21
I keep my tractor full, and have two 5 gallon cans. Two years ago, when I cleared 2' of concrete-like snow almost every weekend from my 1000' drive at my camp, I think I went though ~15 gallons. That is running a 45HP tractor w/ 6' blower. I can't imagine what the guys with 500 gallon tanks do with it all. I don't even burn up that much #2 fuel heating my house for the entire year.

I keep both tractors full, and when a snow of 6" or more is forcast I just go ahead and fill my 6 gallon diesel can. Even in the record snows Feb 2011 (30 inches, 2 storms a week apart) i didn't have to add fuel. Cleared my drives, 5 neighbors drives, and the street beside my house. Now gas for the generator, that's a different story.

Yep ! That's exactly what I do too. My B2150 tank holds 7 gallons and I usually make sure my 6 Gal. Diesel can is full. I make sure to add some diesel fuel stabilizer to both in the winter.

Since I am not running the engine at real high RPM's while moving or blowing snow, a tankful lasts for many hours. I can go thru 1/2 dozen snows without having to refill my tank.

That's a sharp contrast on the fuel used when cutting the grass ( 5 1/2 acres ). That takes an entire tank full.

I converted my Generator to run on Tri-Fuel *Natural Gas*Propane*Gasoline* and had a plumber run a Nat.Gas line outside for the Genny. No More fooling around with Gasoline for the Generator.

I bit the bullet today and drove the Bobcat about a half mile to the convenience store. The 24 gallon tank was on 1/4, so I filled it, drove it home and treated with Power Service arctic formula. Should be way more than sufficient for this winter.

Well, my slip tank is 120 Gallons and I think we filled it about 3 times last winter. And it wasn't even a bad winter. I'll gladly trade my fuel bill with you guys. LOL
