Snow

Central NY measures snow by the foot.Check out Tug Hill.Average 300in/yr.
When I was laying out wood down around Boonville they told me they don't cut in winter up there. Wood cut in the morning would be buried by noontime.

We had a light, dry snow here, since the air was dry and quite cold for Oklahoma. (near zero) About 1 1/2 inches in the Tulsa area last Sunday. Roads have been quite passible, even for Okies! Did not spot any cars in the ditches on my 16 mile drive to work. Today most of it is melting, tomorrow should be melting weather also.

I need to refresh my "emergency First aid bag" to keep in the truck
Yesterday was the second morning that I was "first on scene" to a vehicle off the road. and in Vermont, that means a tree strike or worse.

So far, no injuries, but who knows.
My morning drive is a mountain pass , on my way to "work" to provide rescue services / aid to injured snow skiers at the local bump.

I've been out here for 42+ years. This current Arctic Blast is the coldest and longest lasting I've ever seen here.

SURE glad to see warming temps.

I hear you - 5030. I really enjoy using my tractor. However - no desire to go out in below zero temps and do anything with my open station tractor.

The house is warm - the tractor is OK in its carport stall - the driveway is fine - all is well with my world.
Least I have the cab tractor as well but I'm still not inclined to get it out. Got more snow coming tonight and tomorrow. Knew it was too good to last and it didn't

Neither are plugged in and neither have block heaters. All I do is make sure the starting batteries are fully charged and break out the batteries with a disconnect. Once I re-engage the breakout switch, they crank right up after a bit of preheat. Do the same with the lawnmowers as well. Almost battery time anyway. I go 5 years and replace them.

Saw a heck of a wreck on YT a little while ago on I 271 near Cleveland and was taken by a State Trooper's camera. They stacked them up like cordwood.

I do the same with my tractor. Make sure the battery is topped up - preheat - it fires right up.

Seems the first real snow brings out the inexperienced drivers here also. If I really have to be somewhere - wait a day or two. All those who will have accidents are already done. Traffic is much lighter and usually the more experienced drivers.

They're calling for 3-5" in west central OHio next few days. Going to fire up the Deere 3033 today and get it ready to plow the long, long driveway.

Love to crank up the heat, turn on Sat Radio and sing loudly (and badly) while clearing the snow. The cab prevents any innocents from having to listen to me.

Yet another benefit of having a cab. I have a mile long gravel driveway. Lined - both sides - with young pines. After a "real" snow - branches are holding tons of snow.

Real eye opening event - the bladed snow shakes these trees. A tremendous load of snow dumps down on the tractor op - ME.

I put a canopy on the tractor. Helps a whole lot.

We finally got a decent storm here yesterday.
Same here. Predicted 1-3" turned out to be a bit over 10. :)
You didn't have stupid drivers in Mississippi????

We're flooded with don't know how to drive idiots around here.

One person even got on the news because she was walking everywhere during the storm. She said she has a late model 4wd at home

I thought "not walking" was the whole point of owning a 4wd

Plenty of idiots were stranded and getting pulled out of ditches around here.
At least down your way folks have a good excuse, in Arkansas you don't really have anything that we New Englanders would consider "winter". No excuses up here, but we have our share of drivers who don't have a clue how to drive in snow either.

It's not the snow that gets us. It's all the ice that usually comes before it. And after

They don't have the road budget so they only treat main roads. I was actually shocked to see our road get plowed.

But that could have been one of the farmers putzing around.

Keeps a steady stream of wrecks for the bump shops to stay in business I guess. The one I saw on I 271 the other day (taken with the Troopers camera), most of them will be headed to the salvage yard anyway.

Snowing here again. Got about 1" last night and 3-5 more predicted. At least it's warming up a bit. Up to 22 (f). Time to break out the shorts.

Yeah, ice is nasty. Unfortunately, even this far north we seem to be seeing more storms that are rain followed by a freeze. Add an inch or 2 of fluffy snow on top of it and things can get dicey real fast.

They only treat main roads around here as well. The rest are left on their own.

So you get a thaw during the day and skating rink at night. I had to find an alternative route into work yesterday.

Police and a tow truck had the road shut down fishing someone out of the woods

I was shocked the other day when they plowed the road I live off from. Of course no sand, salt or brine was placed on top.

We seldom get freezing rain here. Hey - we seldom get any rain here. We can get icy road though. In the AM - before the temps get above freezing - overnight melting will be frozen on our roads.

I gave up on the local news. Sometimes its hard to tell if they are talking about what has happened OR what is going to happen.

I use the weather web site on the internet.

We've had close to 2 feet over the last week here in the snow belt. Looks like we're done with single digit temperatures for a while now, so no real issues. The wimpy schools took advantage of the snow to close and the idiot drivers on the Interstate managed to close it for a while but things are pretty normal otherwise. Hoping it shrinks a lot next week so I don't have to put the loader back on and move the piles back.

My bird feeder doubles as a snow gauge.

Local TV station had lower then normal Temps listed on the weather map that's when I realized they were listing wind chill projections inciting more doom, gloom and panic.

Noticed the same phenomenon on my weather app. The banner was showing 4° temperatures for the night.

But if you look at the hourly forecast, it was showing a projected low of 20°
