i purchased a used provonost 54" rear blower, but it did not come with a pto shaft. since this is my first time using such an attachment, i have two questions....

1) there is no spline on the blower where the pto shaft connects., just a straight pin. .. should there be a spline? if so, any suggestions as to where to get one ...
2) what type of shaft ? the tractor is a kioti ck20hst with 16hp pto .....

if anyone has a picture or two of the connection at the blower it would be helpful....

thanks to all in advance for your input
best regards,
jim

Probably a shear pin hook up but I don't know for sure.

Jim,
I have the PUMA 64" blower. It is as you describe with just a shaft on the blower end and the standard 6 spline PTO coupler on the other. I've attached a couple pics of mine. The PTO shaft I have has a number on it if it will help. The number is T20 201120. Any tractor supply or your dealer should have or be able to get a PTO shaft for you.
George

thanks guys.....

george, thanks for the pics... it's a big help... the blower end must be just a shear pin connection so that if the blower jams the pin will shear and not damage the pto...... also thanks for the part number, i'll to look it up....
regards,
jim

On my Meteor, there is a shear pin, as in the pic, but also a cutout in for a square key. Of course, the pto shaft also has the key cutout.

Check for that cutout. If it is intended to run a key as well as a shear pin and you do not install the key, you will shear pins much more easily (and that's not fun in the middle of a snowstorm!!)

It is very common for the implement end of the pto shaft to have a 1/2" pin connection. That way a common soft bolt (plain head - no marks) from the hardware store can be used as a shear pin. In my experience, the best prices on pto shaft assemblies are at Agri-Supply. They list a variety of PTO Shafts made by Eurocardan. They specifically list the various styles having one end splined, one end pinned, both ends splined etc. Getting one that's too long is no problem - they can be shortened with a hacksaw. Take care, Dick B

That's good info from rbargeron. I agree.

Buy 4 or 6 of the plain bolts at your local hardware or Big box store , just make sure they are "plain jane" bolts, not Grade 3, 5, or higher. Hint, get bolts that have a long enough shank so the threads are not in the hole...the threads can really smear and get caught real good when the bolt shears. It's easier to deal with the smooth shank portion when you need to remove pieces of it.

Here's wishing you happy snow-blowage, and may you not shear too many bolts!
