Scotty Chip, what part of the Rock are you from? I'm originally from Stephenville.

Just thinking out loud on operating a snowblower. Whether it be front or rear mount, could you not use a blade on the other end to scrape to the gravel? When it collects too much on the blade, leave the pile there and start again with the blade. Then go back later to push away the piles. I was going to say that when the snow accumulates on the blade, back up and blow it away but its probably full of gravel by that time. Just wondering.

Hi there Woodchuck, I am originally from Windsor or should I say Grandfalls/Windsor now, but have been living in St. John's since 78'. I see where you are going with the blade but as you state in the end alot of rocks. Thats how I picked up the one which broke the fan shear bolt, left by the city plow. Thats quite a wish list, best of luck.

I know a cat won't plug mine! But it will remove its tail.....

When they get hit by a car the previous night and have been laying in the snow for twelve hours they are as bad as any large rock.

I know I'll jinx myself by saying this, but here goes.... 10+ years with the L3710 and a 78" blower and I've never replaced a sheer pin, or chain. I have an 800' gravel driveway. Some stones do make it thru the blower, but nothing big enough to cause any problems.

Have you no kids, dogs or papers??? roadkill ??? Are you so organized that you police your driveway in the fall? Bet you never bend a mower blade either:mad: -- you sure the shaft is not rusted onto the blower? -- maybe you just never get any snow:eek:-- just funnin ya:rolleyes:

I picked up one rock that broke the auger shear pin but not before it bent the auger and the bottom of the blower:mad:. Took some time with a hydraulic jack, chain and crow bar to get things sorted out again. And a new pin. The rock I picked up that went through the blower really slick was almost worse. Was clearing a driveway for a friend and almost put a two fisted size rock through the side of their cabin trailer:eek:. Like watching it in slow motion. It bounced a couple of times before staying on the ground/snow and rolling to a stop. Don't like clearing snow from a driveway I haven't seen without snow. 17 years and only three shear pins though, not so bad.
New front mount blower and heated cab this winter:D, should be good. Keeping the old 3pt blower for those questionable snow removal jobs.

Shouldn't this be renamed "snowblowers and the itty bitty kitty things that jam them after the above cat-astrophe?

has anyone tried one of these paddle blowers? do you think that It would work in wet snow?66" Lorenz Snow Blower Model 530

I havent tried one, but i really dont like the cleaver design of the augers. On Lorenz's website they say the design is best for hard pack snow.
" The augers are made with paddles that break up the snow for easier feeding into the blower. These paddles are very effective, especially when blowing hard snow or snow that has been moved once already'

usually where the wet snow gives problems is the chute and fan area, not so much the augers.

Ive thrown pretty wet (slush) with a conventional style blower with minor issues. A tip i do is to spray the fan / chute with old oil. Some have lined the area with UHMW.
