You've mistaken me for someone who gives a hoot about your standards. One example of my standards is that in order to follow my heart I had to quit a job (HS Math Teacher) lose seniority and tenure. We took a year on a 27 ft sailboat and traveled about 6000 miles at 6 mph (18 mpg when using the 18 hp deisel engine. Traveled from Lake Ontario to NY City, then Maine to Florida Keys and the Abacos (Bahamas) No, I don't try to impress anyone with my car. Its a tool to get me places. Our boating trip was on of the best choices my wife and I have made. I'll try not to criticize you but please quit your condescending remarks. You are wrong again as I do have average means but choose differently and find your "starter" car quite desirable. Its been paid for since 2005 as has my home since 1982 and my boat since 1990 and I'll pay cash for my next "starter" car. Loren
So if you had more means you'd have a better car and boat, that's not condescending, it's just true. Just because you can't afford more doesn't make a corolla more than a first car for most, designed and built to price. I'm surprised in your interest in cars as you passion for electric cars seems high, but then you claim it's just transportation and you don't care, some disconnect there... HS

I would suggest you read "The Millionaire Next Door." Some of the people around you that live modestly are more affluent than you might think. Because they don't have the need to showcase their wealth, you never suspect how much they really have. Case in point is a former client, Stanley. Stanley ran a successful telecommunications company, which he started from the ground up. Sold out to one of the majors for mid 9 figures. Thats $X00,000,000. Stanley drove a 15 year old truck, lived in a 1500 square foot home, and traveled the country in what could best be described as a flea bag motorhome. He could have purchased Winnebago or Airstream. Not a Winnebago or Airstream, but the entire companies. He wore a t-shirt and a pair of Dickie's work pants everyday. He felt no need to impress anyone. Not feeling a need to showcase one's accumulation of wealth is not the same as not having wealth.

No valid logic in your conclusion again. There are many who do not buy the most expensive _____ they can afford. You live in an interesting world.

Time to move on.

Agreed. I apologize if you are some how offended. My main point is the only reason to buy electric and tether yourself to a electric short cord and haul batteries around, is that most believe they are some how using less fuel than others and there by decreasing their carbon foot print. They care nothing about handling, performance, comfort, safety, they sacrifice all to make a statement that is not true and will never effect the climate of the world, ever! On top of all that their carbon foot print is actually more, and they paid more. HS

Read up on the Tesla. Range is limited (100 miles) but the handling and performance are reportedly superior to many cars in the sport class. Top Gear (BBC version) put it through its paces and found it a great handling performance vehicle. Their issue was the range, but they overplayed that, and BBC got slapped for it.

When compared to similar priced cars it's a loser in every category. Tesla at the extreme end of stupid. They couldn't build a car, had to hire GM engineers to design it for them, lol. Yuk. HS

I certainly want Tesla to prosper... had many friend working at the NUMMI plant when GM went under and 5000 lost their factory jobs and another 10,000 in supporting industries took a big hit.
