So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

Seems some respond without reading the title of the thread, or the OP.

(I assume that's directed at me)

Seems that someone was you my friend!

Note his last line: "Also, if anyone who does not buy Deere is reading, why don't you buy Deere?"

With all the other threads popping up here about the economy and cheaper tractors on the market, I want to ask you, why do you buy Deere?
After reading beenthere's post(thanks), here's my revised reply - I figured my money is at bare minimum as safe in a John Deere tractor as with AIG (where it previously was).

I priced out all the colors when shopping for a 3320 and they were all within a few thousand of each other.

I think Deere has better technology. When I was shopping for an "economy" compact hydrostatic tractor among the various brands (Deere, New Holland, Bobcat, and Kubota), only Deere offered an independent PTO, PTO HP 10 - 20% higher than the equivalent competitors, lower engine operating rpms, availability of turbocharged engines, etc. And the price of my 3038E was excellent.

In addition, Deere is the only tractor manufacturer to offer free to the public detailed equipment specifications, such as torque rise, axle capacities, peak and operating torque, Nebraska test data for their larger tractors, owner's manual data--you name it. Deere has a great deal of confidence in their products and in their customers.

Deere is one of the best run companies in the world. It is truly an American industrial icon.

Parts, resale value, balance, ergonomics, dealer network, etc.

Not necessarily in that order.

Bottom line...........because I can.

That pretty much sums it up for me also.

Ran a Kubota the past 15 years, liked it a lot but the orange dealerships around my area are all small operations with obviously limited parts and shop support. When I went replacement shopping, a B3300SU I liked ok turned out to be $1600 more than a JD 3032E, I liked the JD hydro pedal setup and leg room better, and the three JD dealers close to me are all large, clean, well-organized and staffed places.

On newer CUTs I like JD ergonomics better (pedals, controls, and especially more leg room--the Japanese still don't get it on leg room!), but what REALLY did it for me is JD's parts availability and great shop support. Plus, in many cases, JD's are now more aggressively priced than ever so the price differential has shrunk, at least in the CUT world. I'm very happy with my 3032E, and I like JD's overall nationwide support system. The excellent resale value attached to the John Deere name doesn't hurt, either!

Kind of a difficult question given the array of different models/products.

In my area John Deere is more expensive than Kubota, but if I thought they were better for my needs, I would spend the money, but I don't so I won't.

I have owned John Deere equipment and still own a 2305 which has been a real disappointment. Our 425 is on its third engine.

My John Deere dealer couldn't figure out how to fix my tractor until a month or two after the warranty expired and I was out a thousand dollars for repairs. The only other dealer in the area is not really interested in selling non Ag tractors and has never had much in stock.

I recently bought an M8540 and gave some consideration to the John Deere models, but just can't give any more business to the John Deere dealer.

In spite of my poor service from the John Deeres I have owned, I don't see them as a representative sample and know John Deere makes excellent equipment overall and will look at them again on my next purchase unless it is an HST; hate the left foot braking.

I've had three JDs now. They are good tractors with excellent resale value. I have several local dealers for service and unlike a car that I will only keep for a few years buying a well made, quality tractor will ensure it's going to be around in 10, 20 or more years.
