I have talked with people that have had them bend. Here is how I engineered it. Certainly not looking to pick a fight here.

now that Kubota thing,,, well it was never intended to come off. Just kidding guys, the real question is why in he!! doesn't all Kubota's come with QA?.. I know I know... money$$. and why was I stupid enough not to specify a QA in the first place:confused2::confused2:

Well here is the top bar of steel. tacked on only. too dark, not to make excuses (Don are you there?:laughing::laughing:) lest Don think I am a Candy.. um you know... anyway. maybe tomorrow I can finish welding the top and weld on the hooks in line with the loader arms, and paint if there is enough time. Painted it Sunday, all over. but of course did not have the top piece of metal yet..

Dad and I did his with 5 inch grinders and cut off wheels (1/16). I think it took two of us about an hour to get the bucket cleaned off

Thanks for posting the link for your SSQA build - I currently have the pin-type Kubota QA and would like to replace it with an SSQA (one that used a linear actuator for the pin release would be really sweet) .... your project has inspired me to contemplate rolling my own :thumbsup:

Lots of options out there for QA - just wish that all the OEMs had standardized. I removed my Montana-style QA in favor of the SS. Seemed a shame to ruin a brand new and working accessory but to heck with it.

Besides, all that grinding, hammering and welding builds character!:thumbsup:

k0ua, one thing I would have done is remove a bunch of material from the center of the weld-on QA plate. This would have given you additional welding edges and reduced weight (ok, maybe not much but every pound counts;))

I finished welding on the top plate tonite, I went with 1/4 instead of 3/8, I looked at my
new Kubota QA bucket and that is all it had on it. I did not get to the hooks. Maybe tommorow
The continous bead on the back is the most I have ever welded in a single line. I know I
would not make a pimple on a good welders.... but I was pretty proud of the welds. Its about
as good as I can do anyway. Rod-US Forge 7018 Size- 1/8 Polarity-DCEP 122 amps
Welder Everlast PA160 Inverter.

As for removing more of the center metal, I though about that, but it looked hard :laughing: and I also though it would add more stiffening in the center, oh well it is a little late now..

Wow, what a lot of work. I got a new bucket when I got my QA, but I figured I'd slap a plate on the old bucket one day. Maybe it will just be a flower planter now.
When I got my original estimate for the QA, I asked about them doing the old bucket. They said they would but they wanted $300 to setup the old bucket with the QA plate. I thought that was really high for welding, but maybe it wasn't such a bad price afterall???

Wow, what a lot of work. I got a new bucket when I got my QA, but I figured I'd slap a plate on the old bucket one day. Maybe it will just be a flower planter now.
When I got my original estimate for the QA, I asked about them doing the old bucket. They said they would but they wanted $300 to setup the old bucket with the QA plate. I thought that was really high for welding, but maybe it wasn't such a bad price afterall???

Knowing what I know now, I would do one for $300, because I think I could a better job now with some experience, but let me tell you about half way thru, I was thinking about just forgetting it. Having the proper tools would help, and here is something I would do different : Step 1 cut off the vertical part of the ears either with a good big torch or plasma or big wheel
Step 2. drill out plug welds with at least 1/2 or 5/8 drill bit.
Step 3: turn a cutting wheel vertical, and cut in on the "inside" of the vertical "fillet welds" . Leave these welds alone at this step, just get the middle strip of metal loose on both sides, and bust the remainder of the plug welds. now the middle piece is out and you are left with 2 vertical strips of weld under a little bit of the original base metal.
Step 4: now start cutting on BOTH sides of the fillet and the MIG weld with at least a 4 1/2 wheel and a 5 inch would be better so the angle can be more shallow. Now that you have access to both sides of the weld stack the cutting will be much easier. Note I did not do any of this, but I have thought it out, and I think this is the way to do it.. Bring it over and I will do yours for $250.. so how about that?

I'd gladly take you up on the $250, but it's the 2500 mile round-trip that seems to be a bigger obstacle. :laughing:
