I had really old sod that I needed to rip up for a playfield instalation. I found that tilling did nothing as the tiller wouldn't get down far enough. I eventually had to get the thing plowed. It was the ONLY way to get below the roots.
And I just did part of my field. I'm going to be doing more, probably in the spring. I think that I will plow, till, and then grade w/ the harley rake. I'm hoping the rake will allow me to skip rolling and dragging. I guess we'll see.
I'm thinking about one of these things, but I have a lead on a used Harley rake and I think this would do a better job of overall grading. Some of the areas may only require the rake. Or I may be able to skip tilling altogether; depends on the sod clumps, which the plow tends to flop over in long, big runs.
