The tensioner is worn out, I have to weld some new steel to it.
The chain is new but last year i broke it when i winched, I think the chain are to loose.
Last year I replaced a tensioner and took out a link in the chain of a Farmi winch my logger was using at my place. I was able to get a 'repair link', which is designed to allow for this type of repair; shortening a worn out chain with stretched links. It went back together and works great. His winch makes your's look showroom new!! Most logging winch suppliers should be able to get you the necessary part(s). It would allow you to clean/ lightly lube the chain too.

I agree that even with a new chain if the tensioner is not functioning properly the chain will eventually bind and then break, so you might just need the tensioner back to working withOUT having to remove any links. Does the new chain you have match the link # of the old one?
