Hello All!
Green fever has hit the house hard. We have decided to purchase a compact John Deere because the kids (age 15 and 13) are old enough to help and we would like a modern tractor with more of the safety features.

So we started the search the same way many of you did: A tractor a few years old, in decent shape, with good tires and a good history.

What we found is the tractors hold their value so well, you might as well buy new. And if you add in the zero percent financing for 60 months, a brand new tractor comes out about the same price as a used tractor.

Do you have any compelling reason to talk us out of buying new instead of used?

Hard to find a good used tractor;they are out there but one in good shape is going to hold it's value. As stated with the financing and warranty new is hard to pass up.

I did the same and my new 1025 was delivered to the dealer Friday now just if loader would get here so they will let me have it!

PS I know this is 100% not the answer u were looking for!

Actually, these are exactly the answers I was hoping for.
I just thought if there were another side to this, I'd like to hear it. Glad to have our thoughts confirmed by people who have done the same thing.

Sure are good folks around this site!

When I bought my Kubota I could not find a used tractor in that category. Looked for 3 months and then bought new.

As for the price of slightly used tractors. Let's be hypothetical..... Let's say the tractor you want/need costs $15,000 new. Let's say you found a used one with 500hrs and in excellent condition for $12,000. That's a 20% savings. The first owner paid $6 per hour for every hour he ran that tractor.

If you buy a new tractor are you willing to pay $6 per hour for every hour in the seat just for depreciation?? If so, then go new. If that seems a bit expensive to you then look for used.

If you need factory financing this all changes. But don't be fooled by 0% financing. It does not exist.

Google equipment financing and look for a lender that would support your purchase. You might be surprised how low the interest rate would be on a used tractor. Don't forget to calculate in the $6 per hour depreciation. :)

Post whatever you decide, with pictures of course.

Oh, I forgot to mention warranty. If you think you need warranty on a slightly used tractor (500 hrs for example) you are buying the wrong tractor. :)

No reason not to (and you've got the wife behind you!).

Go new and have it set up the way you want it.

<TBN does love to spend other peoples $$$>

Went through the same thought process when I had to retire my big old 65 hp JD. Looked hard and long for good used CUT. The only ones that were significantly less than new had 1,000 + hours. One reason I ditched my old tractor was to not have to constantly do repairs. Finally went with a new JD 3038E and never looked back. It's paid off now, and running great. My only gripe with the CUTs of all brands isthat they are narrow and easier to roll over than a regular utility tractor. But I just wear the seat belt and hope for the best.
