The floor trusses used in my home where made from 2x4's 22" tall, so I know what your saying for the ability to run anything necessary through them. I was referring to phone lines, cable tv, etc. It is very easy to make a 3"-4" piece of PVC pipe insect/rodent proof.
As for the completion of my home, we have been living in it since last November. I still have a few things to finish off inside - nothing a couple of weekends wouldn't take care of. I was the "general contractor" for the build. Hired the shell sided and roofed. With the help of BIL, did the plumbing and heating. Did infloor heat in basement and garage. Wired my self. Hired sheetrocking. Installed hardwood floors, hired sanding and sealing of said floors. Layed ceramic tile in all bath rooms and laundry. Hung all interior doors, cabinets. Installed 1777 ft. of base and casing. Ranch style, 1910 sq. ft. on main floor, finished walkout basement. Favorite room - family room in basement (24'x38' of open space, thanks to floor trusses). Landscaping still needs to be completed, also need side walk and concrete apron in front of garage doors.
Up to this point there have been 122 yds. of concrete used in my home.
