It is always just a matter of time in a thread about PC problems that someone with a Mac will jump in and report how they've never had problems....

Why aren't Macs the target for malware and virus attackers??? Its not because they are bullet proof. Its because the majority of the work of the world is not done on Macs. Art is done on Macs. Fun is done on Macs. There's no profit in attacking art and fun.

It can pretty much be gauranteed that if Macs would ever gain the majority market share of business and home PCs they will be attacked and penetrated heavily. However, that day will probably never come because as Mac devices like iPads and iPhones gobbly up market share the applications move towards web-based programs, where nothing but a dumb interface lives on the end-users' devices. There's about nothing to attack from the users' endpoint. The devices are basically slick interfaced dumb terminals.

The real trouble will start when hackers figure out how to penetrate the databases where all the users' web based data lives. That's the pot of gold.
I think most viruses and malware are also developed overseas where the Mac is still a very rare phenomenon. Russia, China, Eastern Europe are all PC not Mac territory.

speaking of the interfasce terminals.

'cloud' tech is getting big.

might not be so 'smart' to do so either.. :)

I agree. When it leaves your box you lose control.

Everyone has their recipe for protecting their computer and I'm no different.

Can't think of the last time I've had a problem on my computers, yes, window's machines.

I'm a fan of Malwarebytes. Been using it for maybe 4-5 yrs. First heard of it on a tech support forum for McAffee when their tech sent a customer to Malwarebyte for a problem McAffee couldn't correct that got my attention.

For a firewall I use Comodo and have for numerous yrs. It does its job well and when first installed, it is almost paranoid about any data coming in or going out. Once you get it set up and have specified what is OK and what is not, you hardly every here from it unless something new is happening. In addition Comodo has a built-in sandbox (virtural machine) function. Any app you specify runs in the sandbox and data coming in can't get past the sand box. Any bad guys get past your protection and all that is needed is to shut the machine down and all data/apps in the SB is history.

One should also check their router and see what kind of firewall protection is build-in and get it set-up correctly.

A couple other things I do for protection is to back-up my data daily. In addition I make a back-up of the whole C drive every few weeks to a separate drive. Any bad guys or drive failure I can recover fairly quickly. Restore the C drive from the back-up, next check for any updates to OS and apps. Lastly restore app data that is backed-up daily. I use Sync-Bak that was free when I started using it. Very flexible on what to back-up and to where plus scheduling.

Won't say disaster can't happen but think I've got things covered pretty well.

Yup, create it on a Mac, bill for it on a PC.
