Sailorbob. Mabe the inspector can post some pics of his installation of the spring set up. I guess the 1700 don't have the brackets with the rubber bumpers like in my pic. the springs have made a big difference in the ride. as far as installing something over the springs. I had some thick rubber that I cut & glued to the bottom where the springs contact the seat

I removed the old rubber bumpers and mounted the springs in the same spot. I think I did add a little scrap 1/8" steel under the seat to make a good place for the springs to contact. But it was not an original seat, it was a TSC cheapy narrow replacement.

I split some fender washers with tin snips, twisted them a little and used them inside the coil of the springs to fasten them down with 1/4-20 bolts.

That's close to the set up that I have. Since the springs were designed for this purpose,they were made with a tapered end so that a small bolt goes through to hold the spring in place .I'am going to see if I can find a rubber end cap like the kind used on chair legs to keep from scratching a floor to put over the springs

My JD 750 (Yanmar) came with them stock. Is this a JD upgrade? They are about 3.5" X 1.5". Nice ride

I assume that you attached the springs to the bracket over the hydraulic vent instead of the seat. What did you use to attach the springs with? I just have a couple of wood blocks there attached by nylon tie wraps. The springs would be much more comfortable. I have been wanting to do that as well on my 1700. Also did you put some kind of boots over the springs to prevent the springs from buggering up the seat?

I bought table leg feet to fit over the springs, from Home Depot, cut off all but about 1/2- 3/4" and forced them on the springs.

Thanks to all for your replies. I replaced the pan seat that came with the tractor a while back with a really nice seat that Hoye sells. The old pan seat was designed for the Japanese hiney for sure. Just that alone made a world of difference in the comfort. However, you know how those rice tires bounce you around and the springs will be a welcome addition too.

Kenmac after taking a second look at your pics. It appears that you have the same setup. My old pan seat had the rubber bumpers attached to it and not the stops like yours. That is why when I go the new seat I hated to try to attach the old bumbers to the seat bottom and ruin it. So, I cut some blocks of wood to size and attached them to the seat stops using nylon tie wraps. Not an elagant solution but, it worked....just not as nice as I would have liked. I will just need to drill a hole in each to attach the spring to. I will try to find some seat springs from a mower shop. Then get some matching chair leg or cane bumbers to put on top.

You are right, I attached to the top of the bracket where the rubber bumpers went. I used fender washers and 5/16" bolts that were a little long. Ran a nut on the bolt first and that elevated the bolt head enough so the spring can't walk off the bolt. Fully compressed spring is still short enough that seat won't hit the head of the bolt. We had rain Tuesday, finaly got back into the field today, 6 hours+ on the tractor. I've noticed my back feels better as well as the rear end. I also have a JD 950 that has a seat with a suspension, they are both Yanmar made, 950 is just a little different than the YM 3000. Going to take a hard look at the Deere and see if that seat and suspension might fit the Yanmar.

I also used 2 old valve springs and it works great.
