Shees, that's about half of what mine are budgeted for. And they are probably not as nice as yours. That's quite a deal you got.

Can't comment on what you spent on the cabinets. I've seen people spend ALLOT more. It's really about workmanship and custom features. Wood is wood, so that's a push no matter who makes them.

Is your painter doing the finish on them? This is where it gets tricky. Some painters do allot of cabinets and can really do an amazing job. Others..., well you really need to be sure they know how to finish wood.

The house keeps getting better and better.

I've got to admit that I am shocked at what folks pay for kitchen/bathroom cabinets. We got quotes for cabinets for our house and they were equally outrageous. That led to the purchase of a woodshop full of medium-grade equipment and us making our own cabinetry, including solid wood raised panel doors. We spent about $5,000 on tooling and about $2,500 to $3,000 on wood and have made the kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, pantries, wash stands, window box seats, tons of custom trim around doors and windows, etc. Cabinet builders around here charge top dollar for what I view to be very mariginal workmanship - i.e. the backs of the cabinets are either 1/4" plywood/luan or nothing; cheap slides/glides for drawers, drawers made of plywood with the plies exposed, 1/4" luan for drawer bottoms, cheap hinges, particle board shelves inside of base cabinets, etc. etc. etc. It literally made me cringe to go look at some the cabinets that these alleged high-end custom homes had.

On the other hand, I realize that not everyone has the time or inclination to build their own cabinets, nor the space to erect a woodworking shop. And I am sure, almost certain, that there are cabinet makers that make good, durable stuff at reasonable prices - I've just never met any.

update,

Last week we finally got the cabnets finished, it took a little while due to everyone is so busy right now. The sewer was installed and the concete sidewalks and approach was poured as well. Next week the countertops should be ready and the tile for the shower should be installed. We don't like very much now and should be able to complete this house in about 2 or 3 weeks. Here are some pics.

Beautiful stuff!! Wow! Our cabinets will be pretty, um, basic compared to those! I sometimes share these posts with my lovely wife, but NOT THIS ONE!! Ha!!

Looking great! Can't wait for more pics (not that I can say anything - I have no new ones... sigh....)

Scott,

Looks great. I like the rock work and the cabnets. We had look at a finish close to cherry but my wife decided to go with natural hickory. We should be setting our cabnets in about 3 weeks.

What size is your approach pad at the garage? I should be having mine poured the week of 12/17.
